Hello everyone. Have been reading this site for some time and finally plucked up the courage to join. I have masses of enthusiasm, optimism and a very large plot to fill -1500 sq metres but I lack knowledge and experience as I have come late to the joys of creating a garden.

My plot is on a steep slope on the side of a mountain, overlooking the sea. It is almost entirely rock. I have to use a pick even to plant a bulb.

Winters are very wet and windy but also very mild. The temperature rarely falls below 12 degrees and even in February can be as high as 20.

Between June and late September there is virtually no rainfall, we can easily go 12 weeks with no rain. Day time temperatures in July and August average 35 but have climbed as high as 45.

I have 16 very well established olive trees and this year have had a bumper crop of olives, according to neighbours this is the best olive season in20 years.

I hope to create a Mediterranean wildlife paradise bursting with colour and requiring little water. This is my second year of owning this plot and I have had a number of quite spectacular failures due I think to my own lack of experience but I am learning all the time.

Would love to correspond with anyone who can offer tips on gardening in these sort of conditions. I am attaching a picture of part of the plot

Sorry to anyone trying to view the pictures. I have no idea why they are upside down . I really am posting from Turkey, not Australia.

Welcome to Gardeners Corner Lantana. It certainly sounds as if you've got your work cut out there, but what a challenge! If you need any assistance there are probably quite a few members here that would like to come and give you a hand if only to gain some sunshine, our last year has been rain, rain and more rain! :)

Thank you for such a warm welcome and for fixing the pictures. Now I have a real gardening conundrum, just looking for the appropriate section for posting.
