    Evening all.

Hands up if you have to wear glass.

I normally don't, even though a few years ago a certain 'optician' based in a well known glasses retailer shop said I did. So I got some, wore them for a while, then gave up. All was, for the most part, fine.

Then more recently, I've been a bit run ragged at work and have got myself quite tired. On came the eye strain and headaches, so I dug out my old glasses. Lo and behold, I put them on, I felt my eyes instantly relax, and I can see perfect.

So now I'm wondering. As I only get the effects of eye strain when I'm already tired, is it the tiredness that's causing my eyes to play up, or is it more like that when I'm not tired I have enough spare energy such that I don't notice the extra work my eyes are having to do to keep focus?

I need glasses for reading, and it happened progressively.

At one point a few years ago I could take them or leave them, but now I cant read much without them.
I find them a real pain, and they spend a lot of time on the top of my head, but I cant do much without them these days.

Do you use a computer all day Clueless? That makes a big difference! My three children all had glasses in there mid twenties, their optician put it down to computer eye strain.

I wear glasses, bi-focals for reading and distance, my arm isn't long enough any more to hold things further away. Also, another pair for my computer, I'm wearing them right now, can you see! :heehee:

Nope I wear rgp contact lenses. Due to my eye condition (keratoconus)I can just make out the top line on the eye chart without them :hate-shocked: .
But I dont need them for reading. Anything further than say 6 feet I'm doomed lol

I wear for distance and TV and Cinema . I need to remove my glasses to read print these days , that seemed to happen overnight . I have trouble reading the cooking instructions on food packets or cans - it seems to be in size 1 font on a very dark background . I really need a magnifying glass for this now !

I've worn glasses ever since I had a pair of plastic scissors stuck in my eye in a fight at school!

In recent years my shortsightedness has improved. I'm still blind as a bat without glasses but my prescription has improved over the last five years - as the opthalmologist said is likely to happen.

                    Ditto.

According my to Optician, about 90% of the population could be prescribed glasses of some sort, apparently it's just a question of making their vision as near perfect as possible rather than just helping them see better for everyday living.

For a serious answer, if you've had those specs., for " .. a few years .. " I'd suggest you have another eye test and probably one of the first questions you'll be asked is 'Do you use a computer?' since staring at a computer can strain your eyes or make the symptoms of existing eye conditions worse - it's all to do with the eye muscles being 'fixed' in one position for long periods. You can help yourself a bit by working in a good light and 'resting' your eyes frequently by looking out of a window at more distant objects and taking a 5 - 10 minute break at least every hour (every 30 minutes is even better).

If you're prescribed new specs., wear them, preferably before you get any sort of eye strain, there's nothing to be gained from working until you begin to suffer symptoms and then putting them on.

i do, recently wearing them all the time rather than just driving or watching the telly vision.

Worn glasses since I was 7 years old. Kids at school used to call me 4 eyes, and my sister used to tell me that men never make passes at girls who wear glasses!! ;)
