:rolleyespink: Has anyone heard of putting seeds onto a length of sticky tape to space them out along the row I’m thinking this would be helpful for veg /salad seeds I’ve heard that masking tape can be used but wondered if this would easily rot in time and not interfere with the germination

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner Oldthymer,

Not done it with tape but have heard of mixing seed with wallpaper paste & squeezing out of an icing bag. Has to be wallpaper paste without fungicide apparently.

:) Hello Oldtymer and welcome to GC.

Only last week our Aldi had 'seeds on a tape' for sale. It's not a new concept. I don't know what the tape is made of. As to one doing it oneself, I don't know what kind of tape you would use but it would obviously have to be biodegradable. I have done tomatoes on paper towels bits.

I haven't done so, but look up on the net if masking tape is biodegrable .. if so, go with it ... and let us know how it works ...

You used to be able to buy a roll, 18 inches or more wide, and about 5 feet long. It was pre planted with seeds of a range of garden perennials. - An instant border.

A very BIG THANK YOU to you all...... I am using the newspaper and flour method sowing radishes for a quick result (hopefully) I think we're on to a winner... my old fingers can't spread the smaller seeds efficiently any more

I've just re-visited this post - I'm going to give this method a try for some radish, lettuce and carrots. I will use the 'newspaper with flour & water paste' recipe and see what happens.

Any other member had success with home-made seed tapes?

Had me a go at this type of method a few years back.
I used old newspapers cut into long strips and then PVA glue on one side with seeds spaced out. It did work well as the kids liked to use this method to see where the seeds came up in seed trays and then remove any weeds which grew outside of the paper.
Will keep this in mind when the grand kids come along.:dbgrtmb:

I seem to remember in this method the real reason was to actually germinate the seed indoors in the paste, so once planted out the seed was already growing.
