The Froggies are back YAY!!

Woke up this morning to my first batch of frog spawn of the year in the pond
So will be doing my nightime patrol to see how many froggies are turning up this year.
Have any of your frog been spawning yet?

 

Not yet, its been so cold and miserable here for weeks.
But I'm sure a couple of sunny days will do the trick.

 

Not yet, but I'm eager to see some.

 

none in Norfolk yet. Unless they're hiding from me...

 

Our pond was removed and given away when our daughter was very young, mainly so we could create a lawn for her to play on, but still remember waiting for the frogs to appear, counting how many were in the pond, and hearing them croaking away when our bedroom window was open overnight. On a few occasions I've been lucky enough to be out on a damp evening when the frogs have been on the move to ponds and seen hundreds of them on their way to spawn.

 

Its now turned into a froggie frenzie !!!! I went to check the pond this morning and disturbed them all!
Had about 10 clumps laid overnight and 2 more during the day!!
If it carries on - this will be our best year yet!!!

 

Well, all I can say is O-M-G!!!! The frogs certainly like my pond - we have now completely smashed all previous year's records for frog spawn. We are gonna be over run with baby froggies in 3 months of so

 

They seem to have started early this year. I wonder whether it's a few trying to get a head start on any that are spawned later, taking a risk on the frost though?

I was surprised to find spawn a week or so ago, even more surprised to see that it's hatched over the last few days and the surface of a couple of our ponds are a shimmering frenzy.

Our ponds are under some trees so rarely freeze unless it's super cold. I can't wait for the newts!

 

it must be lovely having frogs & newts in your own garden like that, a little bit of nature thats all your own

 

It is, I was over the moon when I discovered we had newts! It's difficult to get good pictures of them:

Yes - We have newts too!! But very rarely see them. The best time is at night with a torch, but we will never know how many we have!
I was soooooooooooooooo excited the first time I saw one!!
We are still waiting for toads though.....
