Little wiry thing, wandering around the lanes in the middle of no where.

Had to bring it home as the tag was so worn I couldn't make the number out.

Fortunately Willow could read it. The owners had been looking for it for 2 & half hours, in this freezing wind.

It took to Willow straight away, with lots of licking & wagging. Cat was too impressed though, especially when it ate all its food.

Alls well now, doggy is reunited with its owners.

Well done mate - as a dog owner, I would be utterly bereft if my wee fella went missing, so I can imagine how the owners felt.

I couldn't have left it there, it might have frozen to death, it curled up as soon as it got in the car.

I always keep a spare dog lead bought from a Pound Shop in the car in case it's needed for stray animals. I've only needed to use it once and I got it returned.

well done mate, i dread to think of what the outcome might have been if you hadnt happened along. We did the same for a blue continental giant rabbit a few weeks back in the last cold spell, i clocked it having breakfast in one of my raised beds, I thought it was a grey kangaroo to start with :)

Keeping a lead around is a good idea. The one I had for my boys is boxed with their things up in the attic. Should go get it out.

Last year I was on a busy country road and saw a huge rottie walking. thought oh great he'll get wacked by a truck. So pulled over, gave him a once over look from a distance then called him, at the same time opening up my back door of my car. In he jumped.
Went to the first drive with him, people said he belonged to ---- and pointed the direction.
Drove down their drive, they were out, told them where I found him, and basicly said how they need to watch him more etc. They did not even know he was missing.
And he was no problem driving him around, just laid there.

In our street we've had escaped rabbits, hens, sheep, cows and dogs, including on one occasion 7 Alsatian puppies that we rounded up. I've also found escaped ducks in an adjoining street and on our allotment, but the one on the plot went into a bramble thicket and was never seen again.

A few years ago now, one new years eve, I was walking home and I came across a lost looking lurcher. It was clearly someone's hunting dog and I reckon it had misplaced its owner somehow.

It had a tag on so I decided to take it to its home. As it was about 3AM I decided I wouldn't knock on the door, I'd just take it close enough so it recognised where it was and then just leave it.

It befriended me. I couldn't shake it off. I walked all the way to its house, I saw the look of recognition on its face as it actually went and stood by its front door, I turned around, and then it ran back to me. This went on for a while. Then I came up with a cunning plan. I'd walk about 100 yards away from the house, then I'd find a stick (this was a rural village near some woods). Then I'd throw the stick up the road in the direction of the dogs house, and while it was running after the stick I'd hide and wait til it got bored and gave up. Great (drunken) plan. I found a stick. I found a good bush to crawl under. I hurled the stick. Dog chased it and straight away I scurried deep into the bush, curled up small, and kept totally still and quiet. After a few moments total silence, a thought popped into my head. This was clearly a hunting dog. As soon as that thought entered my head I heard some panting and the patter of paws and then there in the bush next to me was this big dog, wagging its tail, with the stick in its mouth.

I gave up and went home. The dog camped out in our front yard. I figured I'd just take it home in the morning, but by the time I dragged myself out of my pit it had got bored and gone home.

All in a days work for Naughty Admin Maam:biggrin:

Reminds me of the story about a bloke on the Fens finding loads of Coypus freezing to death in the winter of 63.

They come from warmer parts & can't survive a bad winter. He gathered them up and put them on shelves in his shed, then stuck a parafin heater in there.
