    Hiya!

    I'm in Leeds, got an east facing front yard that I share with other flats in this converted house. I had one neighbour who used to do all the gardening out front, but was very particular and didn't appreciate amateur help. She's moved out now so the rest of us are looking forward to having a crack this year :SUNsmile:

    We've got some high raised beds as well as big containers, got a plan drawn up for it and lots of seeds started off on my windowsills. Most excited about tomatoes, planning on salad/leafy greens/beans/peas/herbs too, as well as some pots of big flowers.

    Just need it to stop snowing so I can get planting outside now though!

    As a fellow gardener from the Yorkshire area (Huddersfield) I would say planting out now is not a good idea!

    I would say; subject to what you plan on growing May is your main planting out time!

    In fact I have just recently added my views on this in another thread!

    see here;

    Or you can look in here for more specific timings that should be suited to your area;

    By the way; Welcome to GC!

    Are you able to dig in some well rotted manure? :dunno: That should quench your urge and would add lots of lovely richness ready for those May plantings :) (and the heat may melt the snow quicker :heehee: )

    I sieved and dug in some soil from my compost bin earlier as something to do while it was sunny, gave the beds a good dig... no horses round here except police horses unfortunately!

    Are there no riding stables around!

    We have an arrangement with a riding stables in Mirfield who delivers loads of it to our allotments FOC, otherwise he would have to pay the council to use their tip!

    You might get away with just taking a few plastic bags* and filling them!

    *Note; Not bin liners, these burst too easily, I would suggest something like used compost bags!

    I'm right in the city, although lucky to have a garden both sides :) Also I don't have a car which limits things, not sure how the bus driver would feel about me getting on with bags of manure, ha ha. Things have grown well previously so I'm hoping compost and occasional fertilising will do us.
