Has everyone got the tender tropicals tucked up now for winter, quite a cold spell expected for much of the country later this week.

Thanks for the warning TG, I don't have any yet! But when I do (next year fingers crossed) what are the methods you use. I guess it depends on how tender each plant is.

I've decided to protect my basjoos this year, first time for about 5yrs.

They have been cut to the ground by the last two winters.

Spent ages trying to get hold of a couple of bales of straw, I gave up last weekend and collected the leaf litter under some local redwood trees.
Seem very similar stuff, hope it works.

I planned to wrap the basjoos this year but never quite got round to it.

John, the methods all depend on the plants and location, well worth considering what they will need as you select the plants for the new beds next year.

All mine are in pots and will stay out unwrapped and take their chances (including the NIP), except the E. Maurellii which I have taken to work.

All of my plants are scattered inside, most are in my upper garage; some in the basement garage. I have a lot of brugmansia plant grown from seeds that haven't flower in two years, just keep growing. I put them in my hoop house (unheated) of course. We' ll see who survive in my nasty winter here.
