Every now and then something happens that makes you stop and think what life must be like for some people who aren't blessed with good health or physical wellbeing. One of those 'something's has happened to me over the last few days.

I've done my back in good and proper. I'm in constant pain, which is bearable when I find a good sitting or standing position, but is agonising when I make the slightest wrong move. That wrong move could be as simple as trying to bend down to get my socks on this morning. Currently I can walk, stooped forward and very slowly.

It will mend of course. Its just a muscular sprain or something. I'll be fine in a few days, but it does make me think, some poor folks have to put up with these sorts of aches and pains on a daily basis.

I'll be fine soon. I'm taking ibruprofen and paracetamol, with a regime of 2 of each, alternating between the two types, so paracetamol, then 2 hours later ibruprofen, then 2 hours after that paracetamol again.

I'm also trying to keep moving. I don't want to seize up.

Marley Farley, thanks for the link. I'm reasonably flexible already and plan plan to keep it that way. I can, for example, kick my legs above head height without causing pain or losing my balance or anything. Its important to stay flexible:)

I think all that's happened is because I've been stepping up my efforts to get myself fit again, I've just over worked my lower back muscles a little bit. I doubt if I've torn them or anything (I reckon I'd be in a lot more pain if I had). Most likely just a bit of inflammation and a build up of that nasty acid that builds up in muscles after exercise. A few days of taking it relatively easy, but certainly not keeping still, should sort it out.

You have my every sympathy - I know that sort of pain only too well.

Make sure you stay warm (out of draughts particularly), keep moving (but gently) and most importantly make sure your pillows are supporting your head and neck properly and comfortably.
                  Hope you feel better soon.

From memory, the maximum Ibruprofen recommended in a 24hr period is 6?
The maximum recommended dose of paracetamol in 24hrs is 8

If you are taking 1 painkiller per hour (effectively) please read the leaflets, clue and be aware of how these painkillers can affect other areas of your body.

Wishing you a speedy recovery x

I had a back problem 3 years ago, I knew what caused it. I was outside working in a very cold wind, bending over and laying brickwork. It really chilled my back. It took me months to recover although it wasn't agonising like you have got clueless, more a sharp pain. Now in cold weather I wear a back support, more than anything it keeps the small of my back warm and keeps shirts tucked in to keep out these artic blasts.

I'm on a prescription tablet called "ZAPAIN"! for my achy back. The trouble is with me it is worst when I'm sitting still ! When I get going and doing anything the pain goes ? ? ?

                          Cheers, Tony.

Not 100% yet but definitely improving, thanks for asking:)

I can now manage to work at a sort of leisurely slow amble sort of pace now, which is me maxed out for now. Whereas at the weekend and even yesterday I felt like I could do with a zimmer frame (not an exaggeration).
