I'm not sure it's worth driving around for £1.50 - it might cost more than I saved.

Anyway, my husband insists on buying the Sh--l stuff. He says it definitely puts a tiger in the tank and the performance is far better and more economical than the stuff he can but at Te--o for less :skp:

I just play the Girlie and I'm definitely not going to quarrel about that.

I have been a member for ages, Its worth keeping an eye on it as I pass near to several garages each day so as long as I know where are the cheaper ones I can save a bit.

With the current costs I have mde more of an effort to slow down a lot of the time as well, amazing how many more miles to the tank you get driving just a few miles an hour less.

What most people forget is that all petrol companies have to produce fuel to minimum standards. There are very strict controls on it. With todays high tech engines most of any varience on petrol quality is reduced by engine management systems. Hence the little black boxes under the bonnet that you cannot do anything with, unless you happen to have a computer diagnostic system.

Where I live there are very few choices of where to buy fuel, so I ten to buy it when I am in town and I keep an eye out for those garages competing with each other.

The other thing I do is make sure my bikes are properly tuned. My Suzuki Bandit 1200 is built and tuned for maximum power. The mechanics of the engine provide all the power. Big bore, cams, valaves etc etc. As the engine is running at peak performance it does actually return more MPG than the standard engine, but I get a lot more power.

My chop is powered by an 1850cc High Compression Race Engine. I have to de-compress before I can start the engine. It is ballistic, but as I have tuned it properly I still get 55MPG. Unless of course I bury the throttle and ride it like I hate it. Last pack run we did, was 380 miles averaging 87mph. MPG dropped down to 39MPG. That is quite a drop in MPG, but EVERY mile at that speed was a smile a mile and worth every penny.

I have traded in my 4X4 Freelander for a more practical vehicle. I no longer need the power and 4X4 that the freelander gave me. I now have a 2ltr Turbo Diesel Peugeot estate. I did a 400 mile round trip last week keeping the speed down to a steady 70 - 75 on the motorways and a steady 50 - 55mph on A roads. Averaged 53mpg overall. Not bad at all.

Right vehicle for the job and properly tuned, thats the way to economise.

    Chopper.

I looked at that site the other day, ziggy. It failed to show three petrol stations within the 10 mile radius, all of which had petrol cheaper than the cheapest they listed!

Thats interesting Dasiees. I live in the next village to Chopper & like he said, we've only got a few petrol stations (one of which is thatched !) & it did list all of our local ones.

Maybe not all of them provide the info to the site. If they were cheaper, might be worth their while.
