Apple & Pear

    Is it too late to prune Apple and Pear trees I think.I need to cut out the crossing branches and someone told me to shape them like a cup if that males sense

    Perfect sense, I think the technical term is "goblet":heehee:, it is really giving a nice open shape with no crossing branches so the air can pass through when in leaf, will help to keep tree from disease, regarding when, as the weather has been so bad,it should be ok, as not in full growth yet, if its only the crossing branches you cut off it will be better than nothing, just cut to where a growth is growing in the direction you want it to go.

    Known as winter pruning, that is when tree is dormant, not sure where you are located but due to inclement weather if you are in uk you should be fine.
    Its snowing outside at the moment, but who knows probably heatwave and drought next week so get a move on.

    Ok thanks for the replies, I am in the south and the trees are in bud so I guess it will be best to leave them for this year ?

    As they are only just starting to bud you will be okay to do it now, any longer and it will be too late.
