Hi I suffer back problems when I do too much.Sometimes just a rest for a few days with Ibrufen helps. But occasionally I have taken one of my husbands Diclofenic tablets. They are very strong anti inflammatory's and they work great, only need one of them.Don't take them very often mind you, because they are not prescribed for me. But for you, if the pain is still bad, maybe ask your doctor for some. Hopeyouu feel better soon though:dbgrtmb:

      I'm nearly better now:)

Its the two chunky muscles that run down either side of the spine that I've done in, but one side is almost entirely better now, whereas the other side is still a bit sore but nothing like as bad as it was. It does mean I'm now 'mismatched' though. If you put me in the middle of a flat desert on a cloudy night, I'd probably walk in a massive circle because one side of me works better than the other at present:)

Good to hear. Just found this thread and you have my sympathy; actually all back pain sufferers do! I tore my psoas major shortly before a departure from service and suffer intermittently bad or agonising.

These things are sent to test us lol

I'm pleased to hear that you're getting better :blue thumb:

I have permanent trouble with my back and can sympathise with you. Mum's advise is very good, you must be very careful with the painkillers as taking too much (even for a short period) is very dangerous. Two paracetemol every eight hours is the limit (8 in 24 hours). They can do permanent damage to your system if you take more than that!

Thanks for the heads up, but I've not taken any for the last couple of days now. As long as I take it easy its alright, and today its hardly bothering me.

Glad your feeling better now. Think I'm getting too old now. Yesterday, just quickly planted a few plants, and cut a few shrubs back, and now, back is fine, but gosh my knees have had it!! Went out for a meal last night and could hardly get up the steps:old:

I'm pleased to report I've discovered its not an old age thing:)

One of the lads at work, who is still in his 20s, did some exercise a couple of days ago. He's been in pain since.

Quite, but, you've got to admit, clue, a bad back can certainly make you *feel* (and walk!) "old".

Glad it's on the mend for you :dbgrtmb:

Here is something else. We suffer occasionally with something similar and we use hot and cold towels. 2 bath towels one in cool water one in hot, folded to about 1 ft wide. Place the towel in the hot water leave for a second or two, by now patient is lying on tummy with back exposed from neck to Coxis are. Place hot towel from neck to bottom press down slightly. Leave for 1 min then replace with cool towel meanwhile reheating hot towel. Do this for about 10mins twice a day. You need a friend or partner to help here. The muscles in spasm will quickly start to work again. We have used this method off and on for 40years and if it does not kill you from shock of the cold towel you will get better very quickly.

When I get a back spasm, I retire to my bed with a wheat bag, blasted for 4 mins in micro wave, 10 mg valium, and hope when I wake up it`s gone.

Every morning I wake in pain, lower back, I lever myself out of bed, struggle to pull on joggers, morning routine, after about 20 mins I can feel myself moving easier. So i can see a link, lack of movement whilst asleep, stiffens up my muscles.

I try to make myself do 30 mins yoga on my Wii every day, I am definitely in less pain after it next day.

Please don`t think I need a new mattress, I purchased last year, firm, pocket sprung, 50mm memory foam topped, adjustable bed.

I'm started to get a little bit puzzled now. Its been a few weeks I think since I did my back in. It should be a distant memory by now, but it still hurts a bit. I'm also getting random pains in my upper leg muscles now too, and sometimes sudden moments of weakness in my legs. I'm beginning to wonder if I've somehow done some sort of nerve damage, because if it was muscle damage I'd expect the pain to happen all the time, especially when the muscles were being used, but that's no longer the case.

Oh well, I'll give it another week or two and then if its still not right I might pop along to get it looked at, not that doctors can ever find anything when it comes to back pain. It took nearly 20 years for the doctors to work out what was causing my dad's back and leg pain.
