So, if Summer eventually arrives (scrap that, I'd be glad if Spring would ruddy arrive), which roses are you planning to buy, move, etc?

I have managed to dissuade myself (so far) from buying any more DA roses, although I got as far as checkout yesterday before I gave myself a good talking to

Out of the seven DA roses I bought last year, five of them went into cheapo plastic pots, so I have bought some new pots from Costco and they will be moved into those :blue thumb:

I took loads of cuttings last year but took them too late I think and most of them have died. I do have a few which have made it, so one or two of those will be making their way to our resident rose guru ;)

I will be taking some earlier cuttings this year to see if I have any better luck.

I'm not buying any this year either honest :wallbanging: , did buy a lovely one last year though'Albertine' to grow over my new arbour it didn't flower last year but has scrambled to the top of the arbour so hopefully flowers this year.
Which David Austen ones did you buy? my favourites too :wub2: , one of my absolute favourites for the sheer amount of flowers produced is 'Rosy Cushion', flowers constantly till October or later here, like a large flowered 'Ballerina', gets to over 5ft even after a hard prune, aaaaaah roll on summer.

I haven't had roses for twenty years but last autumn I dug a bed and planted nine. I'm yet to see how they get on, if they survive the snowdrift they are currently under. :)

I won't be buying anymore this year and I don't buy from David Austin, he's too expensive!

            I bought :

            Teasing Georgia
            [IMG]

            Gertrude Jekyll
            [IMG]

            Jude the Obscure
            [IMG]

            Lady of Shalott

The quality of display was affected by the constant rain last year, although they did mostly give me lots of blooms. Jude the Obscure was a late starter but the wait was so worth it :wub2:

Hopefully we'll have a bit more sun this year!

I bought a Queen Elizabeth from Aldi a few weeks ago, but it doesn't seem to be doing too well. Fingers crossed she shows a bit more lift once the weather warms up.

Beautiful Merle, agree with Harry 'Lady of Shalot' is a fabulous colour, I want one :wallbanging:
We need a year like 2011 I think  know it was a bit dry but my 'Winchester Cathedral' looked amazing usually the flowers open 1 or 2 at a time but that year they opened in huge clusters, looked like a different rose, quite a sight.

I am looking for a deep red rose to plant in my garden.
I thought of 'Ena Harkness' but some images I've googled look quite orange coloured and I would really like a very deep red one.
Also just seen 'Royal William' which looks a nice colour - anybody had any experience with these and do they grow easily?
Would be grateful for any ideas and information.

                    Thanks

I don't grow either of those jjordie but do grow one of David Austens 'William Shakespeare' the colour is so hard to capture though I've tried many times, here's a picture but in real life it is a much darker velvety red, it is a vigorous one which I have to keep in check with a hard prune each spring lovely scent too :)

Dame de Couer and New Dawn I like but really one each of all these posted would be better :dbgrtmb: I like all roses so it's very hard to choose.

I have New Dawn jjordie only a baby at the moment sent to me year before last as a rooted cutting by a friend, it had a few flowers last year and is lovely.

I have just bought 'Dame de Coeur' (Queen of Hearts) as it looks such a lovely deep red. Maybe I will buy a 'New Dawn' later. As it is a bare root plant I am wondering if
there will be a flower or two on it later in the year - or am I expecting too much ?
