Looking forward to the Summer, when we will hopefully be rewarded with lots of Clematis blooms........

I bought a load of cheap ones from Morrisons last year - some of which were okay but some didn't do much, so this year I've bought (in addition to a few more cheap ones), some more established 2L plants.

    The ones I've ordered are:

Tangutica Golden Tiara (to go with Rosa Gertrude Jekyll)
    Florida Sieboldii (container)
    Viticella Purpurea Plena Elegans (pergola)
Texensis Princess Diana (to go with Rosa Teasing Georgia)

Which of yours are you most looking forward to flowering?

      Hi

I do grow Texensis Princess Diana , the flowers are so different to any other I have ever grown, look like miniature Tulips in the catalog it says it "reddish pink" but mine is I would say red, its not that easy to find in the garden center should be more popular/available. Its easy to grow than a lot of the others that have failed miserably, when in flower next I will get some photo's and put on here

I grew a couple of clematis a number of years ago in my old garden. No idea what they were, or, to be really honest, how to care for them  They were planted in a fairly shallow "trough" style wooden planter a friend made for me. Lasted a good few years until they simply failed to thrive anymore (now I know why!).

Last month I bought 3 from Morrisons:
        1x Scartho Gem
        1x Elsa Spath
        1x Cardinal Rouge

Obviously, I'm looking for all three to flourish and flower but if only one were to flower, I think I'd prefer it to be Elsa Spath (if it comes true to colour from the pictures I've seen).

Danger is ... I think I'm going to invest in some more: I have plans ;)

The Morrison supermarket clematis are great but you have to be patient.
        First year- not much happens
Second year- decent flowers but fairly small
        Third year- flowers everywhere. Amazing.

And the main thing is they are all good cheap sturdy plants

The supermarket 3 for £5 etc are all first year plant as Tirednewdad says .
I got Polish spirit and two Montanas from Asda last year , hopefully see a few flowers this season.
One of my favourites is C. Mrs Cholmondeley early flowering with pale lavender flowers as big as dinner plates , mine is about 9ft tall now.
My favourite is a Japanese variety C.Fujimusume flowers are stunning shade of pale blue . It died back last year hopefully it will grow again this year . Clematis can be sulky little devils when they want to be :gaah:

I think it is worth cutting most clematis right back at Year 1 to encourage more shoots and, if you can, in year two also ... get much stronger plant and growth in following years as a result. Doesn't fit well with getting a nice display, sooner, though ...

            My fave Clematis is armandii.
It tends to be quite expensive, but there is a garden centre about 25 mins from me (in Enfield) where I picked up one for £10, and not a bad size.

Sirius - I'd noticed they are rather more expensive than most (and, I haven't worked out yet, why?) £10 is a great bargain by all accounts :blue thumb:

I've already had one for several years, and yes, it is one of my favourite Clematis.
Anyway, on Saturday I went to the Local Nursery to get some large low round pots to plant succulents in....... and came away with another Clematis Armandii and a Clematis Armandii Apple Blossom.......I never learn.:dunno: :snork: I did get the pots though:coffee:
