As some of you may know (I think I've made enough noise about it:) ), my car is bust beyond economical repair. So for the time being I am 'transportationally challenged'.

So far it is turning out to be a blessing. I've been walking a lot more in the last few days, and today I discovered a shortcut between my side of town and the other side of town that reduces the walking time between me and my sister's house by a good 10 minutes or more. I've all but sealed a deal on a car that I've been after for ages but never been able to justify buying on account of having a functional car, until now. And last but not least, today, I got my back back off my sister (she borrowed it over a year ago and neither of us got round to sorting its return until today).

So now I have my bike back.

Marley - you know I think the world of you, but 'carbon footprint'??

It is one of those phrases that drives me up the wall! The world's climate has been changing since time immemorial, that is why we don't have dinosaurs after all - this current excuse to extort money out of us, 'global warming', is human arrogance at its best.

Don't get me wrong, I am not for one second suggesting that we should go around devastating the natural environment, because I am not - - sure, it needs looking after, and we have a responsibility to look after it. But, there were no Range Rovers around when the dinosaurs met their demise.

The world's climate is ever changing, that we have got to get used to and adapt to - however, the trend to extort money on the back of that (taxation etc) is purely human greed.

Cycling is my only mode of transport anyway. :snork:
Fresh air does me good. Hate relying on public transport.
I even have a trailer for it too.
Last year i fetched 180l of compost on it (got some funny looks though)

Finally got round to properly assessing the damage resulting from my sister neglecting it while she had it.

Good old WD40 seems to have cured most of its problems. I just need to adjust the brakes, probably tune up the gears, raise the seat, put some air in the tyres, and its good to go:dbgrtmb:

Oh, and wait for it to stop snowing. That would probably be wise.

I moved house on a bike with a trailer once but that was in Holland!
Now I can just make it to the other end of the village often wondering whether it will be the last thing I do.

Mine doesn't have disc brakes thankfully. My mate who has just had discs retrofitted to his bike said his brakes are now so sensitive he has to be careful because it doesn't take much to lock it up completely. Doesn't sound safe to me. I can lock mine up if I ever needed to, but that would require me to pull make a conscious decision to do so, completely squeezing the leavers as tight as they'll go.

Dunno. Something to do with its viscosity rating?
