Kristen you are going to be one VERY busy bee [IMG]

Despite saying I was going to concentrate on buying nicer planters this year and no more plants [IMG] I have bought (in addition to the Rhododendrons and Azaleas), a Philadalphus Virginal, Prunus Lusitanica and some Clematis - Florida Sieboldii, Tangutica Golden Tiara, Viticella Purpurea Plena Elegans and Texensis Princess Diana.

Also bought some more planters to pot some existing plants on, including a 70cm planter to pot up my dwarf Lilac.

Agree about the weather Kristen - can't wait to get started.

No pics as such yet, but I've started adding to my Tricyrtis collection already by ordering Tricyrtis dilatata. A variable species, it should look something like these when it flowers in late summer/early autumn.

Either way, a feature of this species is the reflexed petals which I really like.

Hey all, I just picked up the following from a local garden nursery :-

        Parrotia persica - Persian Ironwood
        Osmanthus burkwoodii
Philadelphus Manteau d'Hermine - Dwarf Mock Orange Blossom

The Persian Ironwood is 50cm tall and is slow growing i believe (30cm per year) but I have heard it has wonderful Autumn colour.

The other 2 are heavily scented (Jasmin/Gardenia type smell) shrubs which I will plant in the back garden. Delighted with these purchases so far.

I've always found their bare rooted plants to be a decent size (very often much larger than stated), but being my 'local' nursery I have the luxury of being able to call in and choose my plants. I've also got one of their discount cards to get 10% off Wednesdays & 5% any other time. I could probably have checked out their holly sizes when I was there buying my seed spuds a few week ago.

I also have two large trachy, and two yucca rostrata's on the way :) just need to get more composts, sand and gravel so I can get them in the ground when they arrive. They should be here poss early net week :hapydancsmil:

On this occasion they had emailed me to say they didn't have any in the 12-18" size that I had ordered from website, and did I want to substitute with 4" instead. They weren't offering a discount so I said that they could grow them on until the Autumn, instead of me!, and I would reorder then - hence, annoyed with myself for not ordering earlier, I've lost a season's growing time :(

Size of order I was placing it would have been worth driving over there on a Wednesday ...

I wouldn't normally dream of paying for pot trays when I can get hundreds of free ones for 75mm pots and other sizes for nothing from garden centres, but when I saw these @ 10 trays for £1.50 I got them to hold toilet roll tubes (32/tray) for sowing in

              IMG_5852_HollyHedgehog.jpg

A picture, to get Armandii all excited! of some Hedgehog Hollies I bought from Buckingham Nurseries. They are part of the growing-on stock for my Maze to hopefully be planted next Autumn

              IMG_5849_BerberisAtropurpurea.jpg

and 170 x Berberis Atrotropurprea in 9cm pots which I plan to plant as a "skirting board" around my Yew hedge. Earliest they will be ready is spring 2014, but quite possible they won't be ready before Spring 2015. They were 45p each, compared to bare root 40-60cm @ £1.53 or 60/80cm pot grow for around £5 each ... so that's £76.50 compared to £850 Ker-Ching!
