Hi to all who remember me!!

My three children are all now at school and I am trying hard to set myself up as a small business, so I've been really busy.

I have a question about dividing up some perennials in my garden, at the wrong time of year! I have divided up perennials many times before but I just wanted to run this idea past you all first, as you never let me down with great advice. When I started gardening four years ago I learned so much from you all on here.

I want to divide up, or at least cut some chunks off of...

    hellibores (Christmas roses)
scabious (pale yellow old fashioned tall one)
    rhubarb
    knautia macedonica
    astrantia

do you reckon they'd survive. My instincts tell me to just do it but I will refrain if you think I'll end up killing them.

Some hellebores don't like to be chopped up, others are fine about it but do have extensive dense root systems. Which specific one do you have?
Scabious and the rest - no worries, chop away.
For the rhubarb dig the whole plant up, slice apart and replant. Don't harvest for the first year.

Agreed about the rest, but Hellebore x orientalis types are best divided in the cooler months. H, niger will not easily divide at all (or at least it does not for me).
