It's funny how gardeners with neutral/alkaline soil want to grow acid soil loving plants, and gardeners with acid soil want to grow alkaline/neutral soil loving plants!!:snork:

Thanks Armandii and simbad :blue thumb:

All my 'best' Rhododendrons are grown in pots (because I don't want to leave them here when I do eventually leave). Not as difficult at you may think, especially if you put them in a nice shady corner of the garden where you won't have to water them as often :) In fact my Rhodos in pots do far better than the ones in my slightly acidic clay border.

How strange.........maybe I'll try one or two in pots again, MW, and remember to use rain water to water them. Any suggestions, MW, as to what would be good varieties?:dunno::scratch::snork:

Depends what colours you like Armandii - if you let me know i'll do a bit of research. These are the larger hybrid ones I have in pots:

Marcel Menard (the colour on this one has to be seen in the flesh to be believed - much deeper than the picture).

Rhododendron Van (very girly and bold)...

              Firelight ...

Lilac one which was a B&Q job ...

I've also got a couple of species Rhododendrons which will take at least 10 years to flower (about 2-3 years old), plus numerous dwarf Rhododendrons which are quite sweet - my favourite being Baden Baden (the red one in my previous thread).

The ones I've treated myself to this year ...

              Hotei
              Rabatz
              Tortoiseshell Champagne

On my wish list (but can't get hold of one for love nor money) ..

              Apricot Fantasy.

I don't use rainwater when I water them, but then we get lots of rain in Manchester and the tapwater is very soft for when I do need to use the hose.

The Millais Nurseries website is a good resource because it lets you filter by colour, flowering period, hardiness, etc and also tells you if they are easy to grow of part of the Plantsman range (which are slightly harder).

Blue, Whites, not too struck on pinks but not dead against them. I love Azaleas as well. There used to be a Yellow flowered one by the Japanese Lake at Tatton Park which gave off a really heady perfume....brings back some good memories:snork:

They are dwarf Rhodos Patty Bee and Princess Anne :)

I've just treated myself to some Deciduous Azaleas for the first time this year, one of which is yellow (called 'Anneke') and which is supposedly scented so look forward to that flowering soon.

I have been looking around for a nice white Rhodo so will let you know what I spot :blue thumb:

You can also get some lime tolerant (up to pH7) Rhodos now, but I have no experience so don't know how they would perform.

Wow I love all your gardens, bootiful :) All looking so healthy, do you all mulch every spring and winter? What do you use?

Here is something from my garden but it may not stand up to yours.

A lovely example of a very blue flower that is brave enough to come out whatever Nature throws at us . Anemone Blanda - I love it ,
