I love your daphne merleworld, I have one with similar shaped leaves but the flowers are very pale pink to white, this one is beautiful and daphne fragrance is wonderful.

A couple of years ago we were talking about putting in some new apple trees & taking these old ones out - they were covered in ivy, rarely produced anyhting usable & generally made a mess. However in the end we decided to spend some money with the tree surgeon, get rid of the ivy, feed, & generally tidy up - and now look at them..

We still may not get an apple thats in one bit, but, frankly, who cares when it looks like that !

Thankyou merleworld its a real in your face colour isn't it ,the even better thing is these were grown from free seed in a garden mag years ago a really lovely poppy that seems to flower for ages if deadheaded, I must remember to collect seed for the seed swap.
Thanks Shiney :) yes at long last things seem to have really got going and the rain we've had in the last few days has really helped, its been so dry here, at last a bit of colour in the garden, things can only get better :hapydancsmil:

The new bed is this year's 'gradually getting rid of the lawn' exercise - just waiting for good enough weather to fill it with all the new plants raised from seed - some of them are in, surviving against the odds (on the left was last year's, after the bitter-sweet removal of a twisted willow).

This bit was also lawn three years ago.
