I thought it was still a temporary banner just stuck behind the front page

It needs quite a lot doing to it to be eyecatching and to have a good impact (apologies to whomever designed it).

I like the new logo, but the banner is overshadowed by the more eye grabbing advert underneath.:nonofinger: and also by the cloud design background. (which I think would still be O.k if it were faded a little.)

Ahem! Talking out of your 'wrong end' will naturally create performance issues, rarely benefits

That's exactly what I meant and why I'd marked up the banner 'overhangs' either side. It looks really odd when viewed at lower zoom levels, with the Banner & Clouds appearing to taking precedence over the forum content. Other forums don't display their 'banners' like this and it doesn't seem to be a Xenforo thing as demonstrated by the following screenshots using Xenforo.com for comparison with GC:

        Zoom 100%

I didn't quite understand what all of you were talking about when you said 'cloud design' and then realised that, if I reduced the width of my page, the cloud design is behind it!

I keep my page size virtually the width of my screen as it's easier to read :blue thumb:

P.S. Maybe it fits my screen better as I have a square screen

Zooming in brings another problem. Using a 15.6" screen, zooming >142% causes the Search Field (not Zigs), Donations, Staff/Members Online, Latest Posts a & Forum Stats all to disappear. Once again this can't be a 'Xenforo thing' as this doesn't happen when viewing Xenforo.com. Anybody who constantly views at 143% and above will never know these fields exist on GC.

These are viewing at 145% on a 15.6" screen. Note this missing fields on the RH side of GC (which can't be accessed with the horizontal scroll bar):

Yes, the design is intended so that one wide screens the text is not the full width, that becomes very hard to read with a post just being a long single line! and your "square screen" will be the same as the designed width of "main pane in the middle".
Not just Zoom it appears. If you view in a resizeable window, rather than full screen, you get the same effect.

I guess this is the "auto-sensing" for Mobile devices, which dispenses with some functionality in order to fit the device. Users with browsers open in non-full screen windows may not realise that there is an additional right-hand-pane with other options, or may wonder where they have disappeared to! (normally shrinking the window size like that would cause a horizontal scroll bar to appear, of course)

I need to look at whether the Mobile Mode in our commercial websites has this flaw too!!!

I've just logged out to re-view GC at >142% and noticed that the Sign Up Now button also isn't visible. Does this mean mobile device users wont be able to view the button to join up?

I'm a dinosaur, so don't have any "mobile" devices, so can't test that I'm afraid. Need someone with an iPad or feature-phone to try I guess?

I've been reading the last few posts with interest. My laptop has a 17 inch screen and I have far to much sky either side of the screen. I hadn't realised I could alter the zoom to widen GC, can you tell me how to do it please? :)

You need to use your Browser's "Zoom" for that. It will increase the font size on all windows that you have open (you can change the zoom back again, of course)

Only marginally related to the topic! Why are almost all screens rectangular, nowadays? When my old, square, screen packed up a few years ago I had terrible trouble trying to get a new square one! It seems so much better to me.
