GC Pumpkin Growing Challenge 2013

Sown 3 Atlantic indoor and 1 in the flyaway greenhouse outside today. How quickly do they usual come up? 14-28 days like it is for pretty much every other seed packet?

 

This was one of my pumpkin plants last year 21 days after sowing seed, but I reckon you'd be better off germinating seeds indoors as it'll be too cold for germination in an unheated polythene greenhouse - I used a heated propagator indoors.

 

Mine were up in 5 days ...in a heated propagator...on a sunny window sill it won't be much longer

 

I've checked back records for the last 2 years and my pumpkin seeds were showing after 5 days in a propagator each year.

 

Those were sown on the 9th May and these are what's up so far:

 

Weight of the pumpkins that the seeds came from. The Paton seeds cames from a pumpkin over 1200lbs - last year I didn't have much success with germinating/growing on the 2 seeds I sowed, but this year both are just showing after 9 days.

 

Just to add to the info, the 1058 was a seed I gave to Scrungee last year and its title on the package I had was

1058 GHAYE08 877GHAYE *1502WALLACE

The "1058 GHAYE08" is the pumpkin size grown, the growers name and year grown.
The "877GHAYE" is the pumpkin that the seed was obtained from, that grew the plant the 1058 grew on.
The "1502WALLACE" was a plant grown from the seed of that pumpkin and grower and a male flower from it was used to pollinate the female flower...to grow the 1058GHAYE.

To many of the gigantic pumpkin growers its a serious year round business taking up acres of land to grow many plants and they use these numbers and details to help improve the genetic line of them.

I did a lot of reading about them a few years back and it would appear that some pumpkins that have been grown are very good for either growing the fruits or pollinating and seeds change hands in the form of "Auctions", sometimes for considerable sums, growers cross their own grown seeds with "known" seeds to improve and better their previous efforts. As GHAYE has done in the above example, improving from an 877 to a 1058

I was just working out by comparing pics taken last year that your plant was about a week ahead of mine (which is being boosted with growlights) when I realised my biggest is 9 days since sowing and yours 16 days.
