Watch out for the icicles when you're putting the lights up, Music. You could have someone's eye out with those.

 

Hi CLare. i was up a ladder today at an elderly neighbours house .she also has the 3ft icicles
but her door entrance is directly in the middle of her home. fortunately our home ,the main door is to the side of the house. i was at her door to enquire if she required anything from the shops, when i looked up and shuddered thinking of one of these things breaking away and falling on her head. when i came back from the shops i broke the icicles hanging over her doorway, that set my mind at rest. i will be careful when i am putting up the lights..

All the snow has been washed away down at West Bay. Cold sleety rain instead now.

 

Thawing a bit here as well. Yay!

The surface soil in the veg plot in my rear garden is like the finest riddled soil with the frost!

Here in Algarve we went down to 3,6c last night which is unheard of this time of year but rain and storms are about to hit so we shall jump up 10 degrees or so in the next few days. Needless to say, the log fire is very inviting.

 

In this last cold snap the lowest I recorded was minus 7, its been a real struggle to keep some of my half hardy things alive, especially as the minus 7 included about three days when it never got above zero, minus 3 max yesterday.
Its been up to plus 5 today but it looks like we go back into the freezer again next week.

 

Well here in Northants it is raining and all snow gone .. I have two glasshouses and I have really been struggling to keep the heat up ..
I have quiet a range of plants including Brugmansias ,Bananas, Geraniums Tryphylla fuchsias and various half hardy plants.
Happy the temperatures are up again ..Need to hide the heating bill when it arrives ....

We seem to have a harder frost today,,

While remembering to feed the birds please remember to break the ice on the water for them. I have noticed a lot drinking as I suppose no puddles available .:thku:

 

We now have over 2 feet of snow............

 

This is now way beyond a joke up here. We have over 3ft and the flaming white stuff is STILL coming down My huge garden is a disaster zone. I have fancy pine trees down, branches of many other trees broken and god knows what else demolished. I probably won't know the exact extent until April. No exageration we have SO much of this stuff (I refuse to call it by it's proper name!) it would take weeks of warm weather to melt it. All bar 1 of the gutters have buckled and the only reason they haven't fallen down is because they are frozen solid. We are now going to have to try to remove snow off a flat roof as we are anxious that too might cave in. The only saving grace is that we still have power.People who have lived in this area all their LONG lives have never seen anything like this before and we haven't even hit the worst of a normal winter. At this rate we will run out of places to actually be able to shovel it away as we have piles of IT which are above my shoulders and I'm 5ft 7ins!

At least we still have food and heat and our animals are ok so am grateful for small mercies. Sorry to sound so down but this is hellish.
