I recall this being the tag-line from the adverts back in the day, but is it really the case? I am looking at lawnmowers as it would appear that mine is about to fall over on me, and I notice that there are very few hover mowers, and in fact they are all from Flymo.

So, are rotary mowers better than hover mowers? And why?

Of the mainstream brands (Flymo, Bosch and Black & Decker) which are the best for electric mowers?

I threw away my working flymo hover mower shortly after I bought my house, before starting the new lawn. The reason being that the hover mower was worse than useless. It pushed the grass over before the "blades" (stupid little plastic things) even got to the grass, and when it did find the grass it didn't so much cut it as smash it and rip it out by its roots. Then after properly bovering the lawn it just left the smashed up grass all over the floor. I never had a decent lawn while I had that thing. I wasn't going to let that happen at my new (current) place, hence binning the bovermower and buying a cheap but pretty excellent proper mower.

My mate also had a bovermower. His was a slightly different model with a steel blade instead of stupid plastic ones, and a bit more power in the motor. All it meant was that it had more power to pull the grass out by its roots.

If someone gave me a brand new hoverbover, I'd gratefully accept it, then I'd sell it for a fiver:)

The only thing hover mowers are fit for are grassy banks or steep inclines. :)

I'm actually quite happy with mine. The lawn is only small so it does an ideal job. Can't fault the cut either tbh.

Never had a problem when I had a flymo. They cut the grass well and are very manoeuvrable :dbgrtmb:

I've got a Bosch battery lawnmower and it's great.

Is anyone else seeing Argos - Qualcast lawnmower adverts at the top of page ? Spooky , the advert robots must scan the actual post script ?

I had a hover mower (Flymo) before my current one with wheels (also Flymo). I find the hover mower got very heavy to push when filling up, hence why I got one with wheels when it broke down.

I was watching the One Show this week , and there was a perfect prize garden on it. The lawn really was like a billiard table . The old guy who owned it said " I mow the grass twice a day every other day " !!!!:hate-shocked: It takes me all my time to do it once a week.:snork:

Yup, saw that in the paper, 30 hours a week - nuts!

When my Hayter went in for a service I borrow a friends Flymo. It was horrifically bad in all respects!

Had a little flymo for old house and now have a black and decker electric on wheels and it's so much better. Hubby now cuts the grass as he loves the black and decker but hated the flymo!

Ive been using a Bosch Rotak for the last 3 or 4 years (Cable, not battery) - does a fine job, the only maintenance I ever do is take the blade off & sharpen it up at the start of the year.

Her next door has got a flymo & it seems to make a right old mess, but then Ive never seen her do any sort of maintenance so I expect its completely clogged up & blunt. She will no doubt throw it out and buy a new one sometime soon...
