Popped into Tesco today and nearly fell over when I went down the 'seasonal' aisle and found it full of Christmas stuff :hate-shocked:, tins of sweets, chocolate, selection boxes etc...!!!!, I'm sorry, I love Christmas but its getting ridiculous, its earlier every year. They haven't even got any Halloween stuff in yet!!!!

They're having a laugh. Go in and demand to see the easter egg selection, that'll mess with them.

Yup, way too early, nothing should be out until Advent starts, and if that means the shops' profits are slashed, so be it.

Yes Bilbo, it was the same in Tescos here on Thursday, but I've noticed it here for a number of years, as soon as one event's over the shelves are filled with the next one.

I used to get a bit wound up about this sort of thing, but I don't any more for two reasons.

            1. I know its just commerce. Lots of statistical analyses have been done many times over many years, so now it is just data that dictates when, where and how to present different products.

            2. I can almost live without supermarkets. Spuds and eggs come from one farm, recently found another farm to buy fruit and veg from, otherwise there's always the greengrocer. Meat comes from big Vic's butcher's shop in the square where Vic himself, and all his staff now know my wife and I well. Tea bags are delivered by Ringtons, where the delivery girl is now on first name terms with wife, and sundry items just come from the local shop where all the shop keepers now know us and are always good for a chat and a laugh. Been to Asda today. Its the first time either wife or I have been in a supermarket in weeks, and it will be several more weeks before we have to again.

It's started in the garden centres too. I went to a big one here towards the end of AUGUST and they had a display of Christmas items including Christmas cards!

I just hate it, it takes the shine off Christmas to have it drag on joylessly for months and months when it should be a real pleasure to take part in the big mid-winter festival. I have very ambivalent feelings about Christmas anyway so I don't want the sense of impending doom to start too early.

Today had been a really warm sunny day, I'm still wearing shorts and a t-shirt, the trees are still in full leaf, there are still plenty of people on the beaches, so it doesn't feel right at all to pop in a supermarket and find loads of Christmas related items (its definitely getting earlier!!). It's not getting to me and like I said I love Christmas, but I won't get in the festive mood until December is in - sorry  :heehee:
