The yearly annoyance that is fireworks.

Nothing much against them apart from it scares my cat to bits but it's not just one night anymore. Not even a weekend. They started last weekend and again tonight.

It's the fact that these things now go on sale from September right through to New Year available to any idiotic member of Joe public with the utmost inconsideration for anyone else. Letting them off at 11pm tonight and woke my son and my cat is shaking like a leaf. Who are these people who have more money than sense to spend a fortune on these things just to see it go up in smoke when they could pay a fiver to go and watch a proper organised display?

Not only are they a nuisance to wildlife, pets and neighbours but quite often they fall into the hands of youths who despite all the warnings, still think it's hilarious to throw them in the street, phone boxes and even worse through people's letterboxes. No point calling the police because by the time they turn up it's all over and most of the time you can't tell where it's coming from.

When will the government ban these things from public sale so these inconsiderate brainless idiots can't get their hands on them. It's gonna be like this now on and off for the next 3 months. I dread the lead up to bonfire night as we have to suffer these things for weeks before, during and after the event.

Apologies for the rant but I've just spent half the night getting my little lad off to sleep only for him to be woken up at 11pm by what sounded like operation shock and awe going off somewhere over the back of us. This is now the 2nd time in a week.

I haven't heard any round here yet and to be honest with you on the run up to bonfire night, there aren't as many fireworks going off here as there used to be.

We have a local cash and carry that sells them at discount and you can even buy the big ones they use at professional displays. Stuff that in my opinion really shouldn't be allowed to be let off in peoples back gardens or go on general sale. As soon as they go on sale, all the firework fanatics go out to see which ones they can buy that make the loudest boom. It's no longer a few crackles and pops. Some of these things literally shake your windows. This isn't a Standard family box of fireworks. These are huge boxes of industrial type fireworks which let off rounds upon rounds of barrages like these...

It's not funny having these things going off especially at 11pm. Who in their right minds would have a private firework display at that time of night? These people have no consideration for anyone but themselves.

I believe these things should be banned from the general public and only be allowed by proper sensible organised displays. People should also have to have a license to buy them and use them which should stipulate when and where they can be let off. That way if anyone is irresponsible they get their license revoked and then they can't buy them. I think that would put a stop to these things from falling into the wrong hands of people who can't be trusted to use them sensibly or considerably.

Sadly Fireworks have lost their 'sparkle' (pardon the pun) for me these days....they've been going off through out the summer here....seems almost every celebration has to have them....the excitement of that one special night has become quite boring now...not to mention what it does to the animals and wild life....i was under the impression times were supposed to be hard what with food banks et al being rammed down our throats when you switch the news on...must be some money left in the pot .......

A general ban will come in I expect for 'elf an' safety. If people want to spend their money on them it's fine by me but no, they shouldn't be letting them off at 11pm 'out of season' as it were. There are restrictions in place already for their use although widely ignored http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireworks_law_in_the_United_Kingdom

I was in JTF last week , its on the same industrial estate as my office. The fireworks they sell these days are huge , it looked more like a munitions dump ! As some have said above I don't hear that many fireworks these days before the 5th , it has definitely quietened down .
