How!!!! If I had choose between bringing three of the hardier Brugs back or the missus the Brugs would win!!

Talking of the missus, here's a photo of her Brug a few days ago....................

Its going to be too tall to put back into the greenhouse for the winter- so should I take some cuttings from the top of the stem & see if I can get them to root ?

I cut my plants down (but only to above the "Y") in order to get them into their winter quarters, as I think they much faster to get cracking in the Spring than a cutting. The plants that I have that are 2 or 3 years old are much more rewarding than the Juniors, in that regard.

P.S. No reason not to use the prunings as cuttings though, either for insurance, or give-aways / sell-ons.

I still don't have the heart to cut back my Brugs..still flowering..setting buds...I know the winter is just around the corner, but........the greenhouse is bubblwrapped and a fleece tent all ready. It's gonna be a mad dash come the colder forecasts.

We had a racing-cert frost forecast last year, and I bought everything in (on 23-Oct) ... the frost didn't happen, and they could have stayed out for a couple more weeks.

I wonder if a light frost, now, followed by day temperatures that are 16C (say) is going to do enough damage to worry about? Not sure I can realistically fleece mine, not easy shapes to cover / wrap, and most of them are quite big.

Lots of buds on them ready-ing for another flush.

I am readying for bringing things in that are going to be miserable below 5C though - Coleus, Begonias, that type of thing.

I prune to above the Y, otherwise the plant has to grow back and re-form a Y. I don't know why it isn't mature after N-months, and instead the only mature growth is above the Y, but that's how it seems to be.

For example, if you grow one from seed and want it to flower "lower down" then you need to take a cutting (above the Y), pruning it lower won't help. Although that's only hypothetical as no one would want to do that, surely, as the dangly flowers need to be at some height to be at, or above, eye level to enjoy them fully :)

All IMHO of course, me not being a strongly opinionated person and all that jazz :heehee:

what a shame , when they start to finally kick flowering

flowers are huge , shame that will have to go in the greenhouse soon and will not enjoy the view anyome .

also the yellow is covered with buds once again ...: ( sad we have to wait another 6 months before seen them again .
