For years, some girl friends and myself go to Blackpool for a long weekend. It used to be such fun and great place to let your hair down so to speak.

Maybe Im getting old or just more choosey because I just dont like the place anymore. Its dirty and smelly, full of loud mouth kids and you cant seem to find
any good entertainment like you once could. :(

I like the idea of a long weekend away with the girls but am wondering if I could put to them that we go somewhere else in future. Im worried I might upset
them so thay dont bother inviting me in the future.

If anyone knows of any good entertainment in Blackpool I would pleased to know where.
    Cheers :thmb: 02

Blackpool is awful. For its high volume of visitors It relies solely on its reputation from a bygone age.

Its not you getting old, it has gone down the pan.

That said, there is some entertainment to be had. Games include:
    * Dodge the filth - This involves walking the full length of the seafront without standing in a used chip tray, a spilt kebab, or someone's vomit. The first person to stand in the filth has to buy the next round.

    * Guess the outcome - this involves watching a totally drunk chav try to have a fight. You choose an outcome from 'get arrested', 'get beat up', 'stagger away' or 'collapse on floor in own vomit'. Whoever guesses correctly gets out of buying the next round.

    * Find the seat - This involves going from one packed out pub to the next looking for somewhere where you can actually sit and enjoy your drink. The winner gets out of buying the next round.

    * Avoid the scrounger - This involves identifying people as scroungers as they approach and avoiding them. You get 10 points for avoiding them, and 20 points if you come up with a completely original response to the question "you couldn't spare any change please mate could you?". The winner gets out of buying the next round.

    Good luck.

My only visit to Blackpool was twenty years ago and I thought it was dirty, smelly and full of loud mouth kids then.:(

    Hi O2,
I have never been to Blackpool and I don't have a desire to go as it sounds a bit

I love the idea of a girlie trip though, I have heard Ireland is popular now but if you want to stay here then why not put it to the vote with the girls? You could gently say "Does anyone fancy a change?" rather than actually diving in saying you don't like it there. If you all get on well then I'm sure they wouldn't mind you suggesting it, maybe they are fed up with it too? :)

Never been to Blackpool - so have no idea I'm sorry! We used to have two girls weekends per year away when we were in Vancouver - a group of us would go up to a friends old cabin on a remote fly in only island (except we used to take the water taxi) loaded with booze and great food. No responsibility - no vehicles on the island, no kids, no hubbies.....just good food, drink and great company. As the cabin had no electricity, it was always fun getting the generator going when needing it, and just ensuring that we always blew out the candles at night so we didn't wake up engulged in flames.
Our second one was always in September - when the cruise ships finish doing their Alaska run, and have to get to through the Panama Canal to the Carribean. We would do the 'el cheapo' 3 night cruise from Vancouver to LA or San Francisco - and then fly home. Again, no responsibilities, great food, great drink and fantastic company. It used to set us back only a couple of hundred pounds for the turnaround cruise - if you like cruising - it's a hoot - do they have any 'turnaround' cruise type things here? That would be a fun but different girly weekend :)

My mum and her sisters/sister in laws all go over to Ireland for weekends away and have a fantastic time ..... our family is irish though so it started originally to visit the family. Whereas now they enjoy it that much they go south too instead of sticking to the nothern parts and sometimes 'forget' to even tell the family over there they are in Ireland .... so they must enjoy it !

There are mini-cruises, which sounds sort of the same thing. The wife and I did Hull to Rotterdam and back one weekend. We left Hull at about 6PM on Friday, spend Friday night on the ship, then bus from port into town on Saturday morning. Back on ship for Saturday evening, and back in Hull on Sunday morning. There was entertaining (though slightly cheesy) cabaret entertainment in one bar, uber cheesy piano solos in another, and just ordinary pub atmosphere in another. We went to the outside deck in the dead of night, and it was mind blowing. Obsolute darkness apart from the stars and the lights of our ship. You could just make it the wake of our ship under the star light. Apart from that you couldn't even see the sea, or work out where the sky met the horizon. Rotterdam was a bit dull until we decided to stop walking and sit down outside a cocktail bar. We enjoyed cocktails in the sunshine while watching the local coppers down the road controlling a crowd of rowdy football fans. It was great, and not that dear. In fact if I remember right I only spent about £300 between the two of us, for the whole weekend, and that included the ferry fares.

Blackpool is awful, I never liked it even when I was kid. My husband is the clown who tries ( mostly unsuccessfully) to drag us down there for the lights ( and yes, horrifyingly they are back soon), so we can spend an hour dawdling along the front whilst gangs of ****heads scream obscenities at each other inches away from a family with three or four young kids.

    Really inviting.

My son keeps banging on about Skegness for a weekend-anyone ever been there?

Skegness ... wow that takes me back. Had my first 'without parents' holiday there at the tender age of 16. Me, my brother, my best friend and her brother. Was excellent !!!!

Mind you, guess a lot of places would have been back then with no parents lol

I've been to Skeggy. Its quite nice. We didn't stay over though, just went for the day.

There are loads of nice places, both for daytime and evening. It just depends what you're looking for. The wife and I had a weekend in Bowness of Windermere once. We really enjoyed it. By day we enjoyed the surrounding scenery, and by night we drank proper beer in proper pubs with proper open fires. Hardly a lively night out but we liked it.

Wow, thanks for all the ideas everyone, it gives me something to work with. That sounds good daisydee £92 for an adult weekend at Butlins.
Ill put these ideas to them while we are there as we are booked in for Blackpool this weekend.
What I am going to do is try googling some places to see if I can find some decent entertainment. Hopefully this will be our last visit.:thumb: 02

Skeggy is not what it used to be. We just stayed in a caravan on butlins site for a week and it was fine for kids but not much for adults, the adult only weekends could be different though. Ingoldmells is just up the road from butlins and used to be a great night out, we went up there at half ten and everything was shut, only had bingo in the one pub that was open. There is about 3-4 decent pubs actually on skeggy main road and thats about it. Its no different to blackpool really, probably more to do in blackpoool than skeggy.
