Who is this from? I'm betting not the TPS or the Information Commissioner's Office?

You may be right JazzSi/ clueless. The real TPS said I was already registered.
The optoutuk needs further investigation. It says it is free ...They won't be getting my card details.

    Good to see you Pete.

If you google TPS not working it appears it's getting less & less effective, I know someone who worked in telesales briefly, standard practice was to call everyone in the phone book, if anyone mentioned TPS they were told that the company had not received updated lists from the TPS recently.

Don't worry Pete, apparently Bulgaria is the 'new India' for call centres, some companies are opening up there. Perhaps they will be easier to understand, perhaps not!

If enough people lodged complaints about such companies, they'd be fined and ultimately shut down, and then other companies that break the rules might see that and think twice.

This looks like a difficult one to crack. The India call centres are there to stay for sure also Telephone Marketing.

Yes, but when they are hired by UK companies, it is the UK company that gets done if you complain, which means they will be forced to rethink their offshore outsourcing policy.

You will probably be added to their calling list & get even more calls now.

An interesting article in The Observer today about nuisance and unwanted calls and call blocking services. Basically it exposes companies that charge as con artists just preying on peoples frustrations and offering little that is not offered by a recognised free service. TPS offers the best option for controlling unwanted calls and is free and is the only officially recognised organisation with these powers.
In conclusion, it says, avoid fee charging companies and only to use TPS.

I'm now getting these calls from local numbers! So they must be using some sort of hosting service now?
I have when at work told them that the person they need to talk to will be with them in a couple of minutes - the record for one of them holding on is 21 minutes now!

Hans, just a thought.....if your phone number is in the phone book then have it removed, it helps.

You can not really lodge a complaint as it is the way they do it
They are not cold call selling, they are informing you of what you MAY be entitled to or asking if you would take a survey
They never provide their company name, or hang up on you,
I registered TPS it worked for about two months, then I bought a phone with caller display and pay £2 a month for it to work
I then spend time looking at every call wether or not to pick up or not, Recently I have had to pick up, as we have had a lot going on, with damage, repairs, companies
My best defence at the moment is the two four year-old grandkids, who are into picking the phone up and talking for hours about batman, spiderman and Crimbo, The caller has not the heart to hang up on THEM :-)

They always hang up on me - after I've messed them about for 15 - 30 minutes :lunapic 130165696578242 5:. Sometimes they actually say some naughty things before hanging up on me! :hate-shocked:
