    Hi all.

I'm a beginner and need a little help please.

I need the names of these plants and how to take cuttings and grow the cuttings correctly, if possible. Hope that makes sense.

Picture 5 is a type of hebe (with a bramble running across it). I don't know what the others are but I'm sure someone will ID all of them for you soon.

The first one could be a variagated dogwood, such as Cornus controversa Variagata or C. Elegantissima, but will need to see the shape and colour of the bark to be sure.

Second one is Photinia 'Red Robin'.

The third and fourth I would say is a Spiraea.

Fifth one is a hebe as Katherna says.

The last two I'm not sure about, I guess that the last two pics are the same plant?.

However, you could take hardwood cuttings from the first four now.

Right, I'll have a go at identifying the plants.........,

Picture 1 - Cornus also known as Dogwood. Has vibrant coloured stems in the winter.

Picture 2 - Photinia 'Red Robin' The new shoots start off red, then change to a green colour over time.

Pictures 3 & 4 - They are the same plant, which is a spirea.

Picture 5 - Katherna is right, a Hebe, with a bramble running across it.

Picture 6 - is a....., I've got a mental block at the moment on that one, it'll bug me all day now!

Picture 7 - some kind of Bamboo

Picture 8 - some kind of laurel, perhaps a Portuguese Laurel, but not too sure.

I'm sure someone will give you some more direction soon!

    Hope this Helps!

Spirea is very good at self seeding AJShep. Have a look round about it and in your paths in the spring. You'll probably find lots of self sown seedlings.

Thanks for that Blackthorn, I've been trying to think of that all day! It is actually one of my least favorite plants, so you would expect I'd remember what I don't like!!
