I have just noticed the title...obviously it was meant to be which plants to plant ;-)
Im not really a gardner to be honest..i only go out and do some if its nice and hot but my husband has built me a nice raised flower bed.

My questions is what should i plant?,i want something that isnt going to need pruning, something that is pretty and will last...if there is such a thing.

    thanks in advance

The least type of garden that requires the least amount of work in my opinion is perennials. You can have all sorts of different colours, and heights and times of flowering, but there is one draw back, there is very little colour/interest in the winter months. You may be happy with that, but some people like something there, so I would suggest a shrub or two depending on the size of the bed.

For the shrubs I would look at something evergreen, perhaps something like a Choisya which can have yellow or green foliage, and white flowers. Something that works well with perennials is euonymous. This comes in a large number of varieties, and can be easily maintained in my opinion.

For perennials, I would have some evergreen ones like Bergenia, Lady's Mantle, and Heuchera, but also some that die back in the winter months, like day lilies, crocosmia, sedum, ornamental thistles and poppies. The list can go on for ever, but it does depend on the size and location of your bed, also the soil can restrict you as to what plants you can use.

Have a look around the local gardens in your area, and try and identify some of the plants that are growing well in their gardens, also visit the garden centre, and use the people there for their advice, as they will know what the local conditions are like and which plants are best suited.

    Hope this Helps
