I'm getting mine tested in the morning. They might find out why my right eye is almost permanently blurry and sore.

If they ask you do do the glaucoma test with a sore eye then refuse, air shot into your eye obviously wont be comfortable for you! i went 2 week back and failed at that test, she told me the results from that test usually fail and said i can book another type of testing for it..so ask them about the alternative test and dont put your eye through the regular test clueless x

The place I'm going to comes highly recommended, so I went to see if I could see them:)

They said they do a comprehensive range of tests not just to check my vision but the general health of my eyes. They are even going to take retinal scans (they'll probably then sell that biometric data to the government:) ).

They said they can also tell a lot about someone's general health from the eye scans, which they say sometimes reveals things that doctors often miss. Hopefully they wont find anything scary though, at least no more scary than a super closeup of my eyes on a saturday morning.

In the old days they would have said you had been looking through key holes.;)

Could it be a touch of conjunctivitis I get it occasionally and it clears up very quickly with some antibiotic eye drops.
Rubbing you eyes while digging in manure can cause it.:)

I know there is some long term damage in there from years ago, but hopefully its still insignificant. I think the main problem though is going to be eye strain possibly caused by the fact that I rarely wear the glasses I'm supposed to wear when using the computer because a certain well known high street glasses retailer who claim to save you money on specs made them wrong, so they actually make my eyes worse instead of better most of the time.

I went there, they sold me a pair of varifocals that makes even the straightest line look curved.
No good to me at all.

In defence of Specsavers I have to say that both myself and Mrs W have found the local branch very good. Mrs W has significant visual problems and my eyesight is pretty poor too and we've both had excellent prescriptions and advice and very detailed examinations.
I was though somewhat taken aback last year when I found that the young lady doing my eye test was a former pupil. Time flies!!

Good morning myself and Mrs Woo have our eyes tested every year by Specsavers and its very comprehensive it is to,takes about 20 to 30 minutes ,always found them efficient, polite and most helpful:)

Your eyes are the windows of your soul, so you need to look after them;)

I had my eyes tested and the young lady asked if I had had my blood pressure tested recently, "No, I haven`t been to Drs in years" on her recommendation I went to Drs, they wouldn`t let me out until it had dropped some, Dr was amazed I had not had a stroke, 180/120.

I had a very good branch of 'Specsavers" , then when I moved changed to the more local branch, and exactly as Pete, just ordinary glasses, couldn`t focus through them. So obviously very staff dependent.

Well, I'm back in from my eye test, and I'm 110% satisfied with this little family run opticians shop.

I was in there for a full hour, and I wasn't waiting around for any of that time. The young lass (daughter of the woman that founded the company, and wife of the other optician apparently) really took the time to check me out most thoroughly. I had my retinas scanned and photographed, she looked at the surface of both eyes using a microscope, I had to play what I can only describe as a computer game testing my field of vision and responsiveness to changes in light levels (it was a big machine, not like a normal computer:) ), coloured lines with scales on, the usual vision test and lenses, some dye in my eyes to test if my tear ducts were working and producing the right chemicals, some sort of pressure test that I didn't understand but didn't involve jets of air being shot into my eyes, and all sorts. At each step she took the time to explain what she was seeing and she spent maybe 10 minutes explaining everything we were looking at in the photos of my retinas.

The conclusion was mostly good. Certainly better than I'd expected, and also convinces me that the 'long term damage' that a certain high street chain 'found' a few years ago is simply not there.

I am slightly long sighted. I have a harmless condition (stigsomething) that means no matter corrective lenses I get, my eyes will never fully relax except when looking into the far distance (not spotted by the other company, and probably explains why the glasses they gave me don't work), and I have dry eyes caused by too much time at the computer. No long term damage at all. No tear in my right retina, no blocked or leaking blood vessels. So I have a prescription for some glasses for when I'm at the computer, but she explained that because of this condition that means my eyes will never fully relax, she has gone for a weaker prescription than would be the case if she hadn't taken that into account. Without me prompting, she explained that otherwise my eye muscles would be constantly working hard to focus in and out, causing intermittent blurry vision, headaches and eye strain when wearing the glasses, which is exactly what I find when I wear the ones the other company made me.

I also have to take eye drops to lubricate my eyes when spending long hours at the computer, because the gritty, sore sensation is in fact nothing more sinister than the surface of my eyes drying out too much.

So in short, I have near perfect eyes, although she did ask me to get my blood pressure checked after looking at the retina scans, because although fine, the arteries in there showed a pattern that can be a sign of hypertension, but can also be purely genetic, so worth checking.
