Bit of luck

    That what i call a bit of luck , this morning I removed an old fireplace
    dated 1970 from a place where I`m working .

    a perfect preserved 1882 victorian fireplace , absolutly in perfect condition

        That's gorgeous. It's hard to believe that people preferred the ugly 'modern' fireplaces and vandalised or covered up the originals.

        It was the 1980s. If it wasn't plastic and/or spray painted mat silver it was consider out of date and drab.

          Oh I know - and even before the 80's. I remember, probably late 60's early 70's, my dad covering all the original doors in our Edwardian house with hardboard and painting them glossy white and replacing all the handles with funky round knobs <ooh err>. They boarded up the fireplaces and put in storage heaters and were so proud of their first fitted carpet. I suppose every generation wants to replace the previous one with 'modern'

            If that was in my house I would clean it up and use it, it looks great,
            I have a 1910 mahogany fire surround I'm trying to sell and know one wants it only asking £95.
