Penny posted that it had got to -35 with wind chill where she lives. What's it like there today @Penny in Ontario ? :)

Holy Mackerel. Even without the wind chill factor that's colder than the inside of your freezer.

I hope people take it seriously. If you're not properly prepared, that sort of temperature can wipe you out pretty quickly.

A very important point to note about hypothermia, and one that is extremely dangerous to overlook, is that you actually stop feeling cold. You just start to feel comfortable and drowsy (happened to me once, but lucky for me I'd heard of it happening to others before, so I realised what was happening).

So if common sense says its cold, but you feel quite comfortable and sleepy, its time to get moving and get warm immediately.

The east has had it bad, about 16 people lost their lives last time I checked? Hope everyone is ok.

I've got a friend in New York state, -31C windchill, 24" of snow on her car. I keep getting her to check in by email to see if she's ok, as she lives quite rural.

                Did I read right?
Worst in a decade, and windchill of minus 60.
Sounds a bit like the daily express.
Not trying to make light of it, but, it might be a bit worse than normal, but nothing not seen before.

Yes I understand that it is cold but it's because it's hitting a very populated part of the world and it's the USA. Where my family lives in western Canada these temps happen at least 2 or 3 times a year. Take today for example and that's with only a 10kph wind.

Was discussing it on the American Gardening Forum, they're more worried about our weather.

Rain stopped around 10am, but the wind kept blowing, and blowing a hoolie too; three o'clock saw a huge squally shower (darkest clouds I have seen in a while), which cleared by twenty past three, and its been quiet ever since.
