In June my patio looked fairly neat.

But I have been decoration for the last 6 weeks, and have hardly set foot in the garden. However the plants seems to have continued to grow by themselves. This is virtually the same view.

The rest of the garden has also grown up. The red Salvia splendens has now been in continuous flower for over 9 months. It started indoors in November last year from a cutting.

Cleome hassleriana - another tender annual

Salvia guaranitica - a perennial that produces tubers like a Dahlia

Eupatorium purpurea - a very hardy and reliable plant that adds a bit of height

Super garden display, Pete, and your photos show how hard you've worked to get it looking so good. I love plants in pots, because you can move them about to suit one's needs. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Some very good plants there Peter.

It all blends into one mass of colour very well.

I like the idea of Salvia splendens from cuttings, wish I had tried that:thumb:

Very nice Peter. I am looking forward to my first planting of the mexican flower bloom. Came back from vacation and it must have shot up 2 feet now. Just put the seeds in the ground first of May.

That's a glorious garden and just what I would like, too. It's so lovely and countriefied. :gnthb:

If I remember correctly, you grow a lot of things from seed, don't you?

Thank you everyone for your kind words. The garden has sort of evolved rather than been planned.

Fidgetsmum, the guidelines that seem to work for me are
    1) Use long flowering plants. Some of mine flower for 5 or even 6 months (and the Salvia for 9 months). What this means is that there is always plenty of colour.
    2) You need lots more plants than you think. If I plant them at the recommended distances they look very thin. Also its useful to have spares in pots if one area is not doing well.
    3) This year the garden decided to go for the "enclosed" look - it wasn't really planned. I think it came about from more tall plants, and plenty of pots.

Yes Kedi, I grow lots of things from seed. I couldn't afford to buy all the plants that I have at garden centre prices. :D Seed is an easy and cheap way of getting masses of plants, so that you can afford to have spares as well. Not to mention plants to give away or swap.
