His songs, like a few others, actually made me stop and think when I first heard them and not many songs will do that. Although, he didn't write "We shall overcome" he made it into a anthem for many people and subtly affected many people in their lives. Another singer who had a distinctive voice and style and will not be replaced by another.:coffee:

To be perfectly honest, I didn't know he was still around until I heard it on the radio.

Respect in the highest for the man and his work as he moved many people with his songs, and maybe he even brought a few to think differently about war.

He was an inspiration for people like Joan Baez, Miriam Makeba, Buffy St. Marie, and many others who joined anti-war demonstrations in the USA, and other western countries, in the 60s and 70s.

May his God be with him.

I see you're a Joan, Miriam and Buffy fan :). I quite often put their songs on the music thread :blue thumb:.

I was a tour manager a while back, and worked with Joan a couple of times. There I met many folk and folk-rock 'stars'.
After being on tour for so long, I can't listen to the people I worked with anymore. For some people (including myself) the music business spoils their love of music, and I find I only listen to artists/musicians with whom I didn't work.

In the 50's/60's I sold their records and have remained a fan ever since. I've been fortunate enough to have met some of them and seen a lot of others live :blue thumb:
