    Hiya @al n :)

Even though it's a very typical youtube offering (with regards to sound quality), one can easily hear that your old system really sang! Love the sound of the guitars:blue thumb: That must have set you back a few pennies?:thud:

They could well have changed now, so definitely give them a listen. I like Yamaha stuff, and never found them lacking a bit of drive - but then I must confess that I generally played with stuff that was quite high up their range, so maybe the entry level amps were a bit weaker.

B&W love a Denon amp generally, and you can get some really good amps for not a lot of cash from them - the styling isn't to everyone's taste though

it was a stunning sound and the whole system was collected over 25 years all in all, what with buying, selling, swopping, etc....

i dont miss it, nor do i miss listening to music like i used too. all my vinyl is in the loft, but it wont be sold. the cds get an airing now and again, but i genuinely dont have time with work and the family to get into it now. maybe, in retirement age i'll have another modest sized rig. the whole lot was snapped up within a week, it was mint, boxed, the lot.

i'd rather have my plants now, we as a family, and friends can all enjoy that! :-)

Aye, you are right @al n - all I have left at the moment is a Sony QS amp, a Technics CD player, and a pair of DM601, and they are next to never used now. I have neither the time nor the room to listen to music properly nowadays, and if I do in the house it is most often through headphones (Denon)

EDIT - having watched your vid properly, I can see that I am not alone in having waved goodbye to substantial amounts of money on hi-fi........

The amount of money that high end hifi costs is absurd!

I did a comparison whilst I had that too and it consisted of

              Audio note io cartridge £1800
              Audio origami pu7 arm £2500
Ear 843 signature phono stage and ear mc3 step tranny £2000

              Versus

              Rega rb 250 arm £150
              Denon dl103 cartridge £120
              Heed phono stage £130

The difference was negligible, and I mean tiny! It was then I realised it was all foo. The only vast difference I had in the system that really were head and shoulders above everything else I had tried over the years were the stax electrostatic headphones. Excellent out of head sound.

The hifi above (when retailed new) cost more than my first house back in 1994! And that was a brand new 3 bed semi detached!!! How mad is that!? Lucky for me, with buying over many years, it cost me a fraction of that!

It is truly scary - makes you wonder how they can sell enough of them at that sort of money to make it worthwhile making them; and the higher up you go, the more negligible the differences.

Totally agree matey! A mate bought me a dab radio which he got on discount from asda ( he works there) and cost approx £18. I get just as much enjoyment listening to smooth or jazz on that whilst I cook as I did analysing the sound on the big rig! Mad innit?? I'd much rather have a packet of seeds or a tray of plug plants now, brings me vastly more pleasure!

Aye - funny enough, my best listening is now in the car! The bog standard stereo is actually pretty decent, and its often the only time I am sat in the one place to listen; that, and my wee Pure One radio in my office......

Maybe as we get older we learn that its more about what we are listening to rather than what system we are listening to

Have a Bose and I can't be more impressed by the quality and punch of sound this small unit delivers across the room with precision and clarity.

Is that a Bose Solo TV sound system or a Bose radio/ CD player?

It's not the TV speaker but it's the speaker system that allows me to dock my Ipod player into it.

Generally Bose systems for various purposes have the same superb sound clarity. I would love one for my car.
