Does anyone know of alternative medicines or poultices or tricks to relieving pain? Dads had yet another fall and done his knee in. We're desperately trying to keep the morphine bottle unused as he is already suffering periods of absence / confusion. We do not have cash for physio.

    Hi Chimneyrosegarden
Well start with applying a hot water bottle.
The NHS should offer physio almost immediately.

Wheat /Rice bags are what I use for my back, they can be purchased for 2/3 pounds, but reading an article the other day, make a bag with material ( old towel/pillow case), half fill with rice sew securely, you need to sew this well as the rice will escape, heat in microwave 3 minutes, stand 30 sec give it a good shake place on pain, you can shake them up and will get hotter again a few times.

Make him an Aloe Vera based poultice it is really very good & my friend swears by them..

The one she recommended for pain & swelling on my twisted knee worked wonderfully.. I was very sceptical but it worked for me.. It was about 4yrs ago now but this was what we used...
Combine 2 parts of ground mustard seed with one part -- White Willow bark, Golden Seal, Aloe vera gel if you have a plant, juice if not, one part finely chopped onion. Mash in pestle & mortar to make a paste, add more Aloe if too dry.. Apply directly to the bruised & swollen area and cover with a bandage. This will relieve the bruise and swelling & should also take away a lot of the discomfort. Hope this helps..
