Hello all - can anyone recommend a good book on identifying weeds? This is for a birthday present - and yes he did ask for it! - so nothing too heavy, but useful.
    Thank you :D

Hello Barbara. The one I keep in my "library" in the car is 'The Daily Telgraph WEEDS' by John Walker. ISBN1 84403 061 X. It's reasobably comprehensve and not too heavy (weight or content!) Hope this is helpful.

Don't forget, Chris. Weeds are just flowers that are growing out of place, but not all weeds are things to be rid of at any cost. Many attract the insects you need in your garden, like the bees, hoverflies and beetles.

That's the good thing about the book I suggested, Strawman. There is a lot of information about growing "weeds" for beneficial purposes.:thumb:

We've got the WIld Flower Key, by Francis Rose, published by Warne. We have a tortoise so we actually need weeds, in fact we have a bag of weed seed which we plant, would you believe! The book is great and has proven to be very useful.

Thanks Liz, I'll have a look for that one too (I'd love a tortoise!). We are quite 'into' weeds, some of them can be really stunning, often really delicate. Yes, we don't want the books to go on a murder hunt , just for ID :gnthb:

Claire, I think ds would be glad to hire him out as he wouldn't have to do the dandelion hunt every morning!

I'm not familiar with your book, Chris, but I do know Francis Rose's Wild Flower Key very well and suggested by Liz. It's one of the very best when it comes to identifying wild flowers and would make a wonderful gift.
