Sorry to hear that. And to be honest I don't think there is an answer to your question, at least not one that makes any sense.

I can't answer that, Robert, but it is a terrible thing.

A waste of a young life, a young man helping to fight someone elses war, this is the thanks he and his family got. I wonder if anyone in Afganistan appreciates it?

Please give my condolences to his family.

    RIP

That is terrible news Robert, we must keep supporting our troops though, how can you forget the twin towers and July underground bombings all planned from terrorist bases in Afghanistan.

My thoughts go to the family at this most dreadful and painful news, as it always does every time I see yet another report.

    That is so sad Capney.
My heart goes out to his family, and the families of all the others who have killed and wounded there.
I can't answer your question. I think everyone has lost sight of why they are.

I just finished reading Harry Patch's book, and some of his sayings really sum up the futility of it all:

â??War is organised murder and nothing else â?¦ It was not worth it. It was not worth one life, let alone all the millions.â? ...

and about why WW1 started, Its " Nothing but a family row. That's what caused it."

I have found out today that Mathews funeral service will be held in York Minster.
I can think of no more fitting place for the event and I for one will be there.

So sad Capney and I'm sure we all send our respectful rememberance.

I've hesitated to post this but does everyone know it's free to post parcels to BFPO addresses.
Some of the super troopers out there get no mail from home - maybe they have no families.
You need a name to send a parcel to (it can't just be any soldier) and that person can hand out parcels to anyone in need of one.
They seem to appreciate sweets, chewing gum, toiletries, anything funny.
Maybe some of you can find a way to help.

The parcels have to be under 2 KG.
Even the smallest parcel is appreciated.
