    Oh you silly Billy!

It is not your wife who isn't "listening" ... it is *you*!!!

She gave birth only a few months ago - you are no longer first and foremost in her mind set, no matter how long you have known one another/been together. In fact - credit where credit is due - you should be grateful she remembered to get you any chocolate at all :nonofinger:
(You could have ended up with a Farley Rusk or Bickie Pegs :pathd:)

I seem to be first and foremost in her mind if she wants some money, a lift somewhere, a correctly cooked meal.

I realised just now that in fact it is true. Sometimes I am just as guilty of not listening.

Wife was trying to tell me about some story line in Emmerdale. I tried as hard as I could but I could just feel my brain trying to break free of my grip and lock onto something more interesting. At one point I think I even noticed a piece of wallpaper that's starting to come away. I tried and tried to listen, but after a short time I became aware that I could see wife's lips moving but there appeared to be no sound. Then after a fleeting moment, even that was gone, and even now I'm starting to doubt whether I'm even remembering that correctly.

I think you're on to something there Clueless.

It is one of the many mysteries of female behaviour. Why do they insist on talking to us about a subject we clearly have no interest in? Or telling us some important piece of information when our attention is clearly focussed on something else.

We are just simple males for goodness sake. Our brains don't have the ability to concentrate on more than one thing at a time. :dunno:

I remember years ago round my mate's flat, he is one of those profound thinker types even in his early 20s. He was on about his realisation that male brains automatically filter out certain types of communication, and he gave the example that it is physically impossible to keep focus on a woman that is whinging. It was a very interesting theory I thought, as I listened intently to his ideas. Then quite out of the blue he said "for example, are you aware of anything my girlfriend has said in the last 10 minutes? She's been talking constantly". I suddenly became aware that this was true, his girlfriend was pottering about the flat, endlessly moaning about this, that and the other, yet until my attention was drawn to this matter, I had been completely oblivious even to her presence, never mind what she was saying.
