Oh plenty did see the Northern Lights, lots of pix in many news papers, Just in my area had low cloud, so I did not get to see them, though friends in Sunderland DID

The problem is, auroral storms are very brief. Once the surge of charged particles from the sun hits us and triggers auroral activity at our latitudes, it may only last for an hour or so. By the time you are reading about it in the news, it's been and gone.

I was lucky enough to witness the storm in April 1996. It was spectacular with green and red curtains in the sky, but it lasted no more than a couple of hours.
