    Sat down on a drum earlier to roll a cigarette, it had a split in it and soaked my shoe in what smelled like diesel :doh:

    Noticed a burning sensation, top of my foot has got a big red patch that's stinging like Billy O.

        @Zigs
        You really put your foot in it.

        Are you sure it's diesel? Never heard of diesel causing a rash/burn.
        Unless it's reacting with something in your shoe, the adhesive maybe?

          After a bit of research, turns out I've been lucky as according to NFPA 704, it has a health hazard value of 1 meaning it can cause skin irritations.

            Well @Zigs, just the other day you did ask us all to wish you to break a leg, and I did say that was a bad idea. Ok so you didn't break a leg, so far so good, but its a good idea to try to avoid all leg injuries really if you can.

            And besides, there are warnings on all baccy products nowadays. Granted I haven't seen the one that says "Smoking causes leg sores if you do on barrels of suspect chemicals", but I'm sure that's only because the chief medical officer hasn't got round to that one yet. I'll send him an email and ask him to add it asap.

                I think it's more likely a reaction to the diesel/parafin on your skin, Ziggy. You've never had the same reaction to Beer or Wine though!!!:stirpot:

                  You can get burns from diesel, if you are hot and sweaty and if the sun is shining down

                    Then you should be OK in the UK. :heehee:

                    Actually we've being having pretty bad weather too, rained for three weeks nonstop.
                    Today is the first day the sun is shining.

                      Think it was because I had no other shoes to change into and it was sat on my skin for a few hours, still red but not sore today.

                      Whilst it is pretty dangerous to smoke near diesel or petrol, the biggest danger is not from the cigarette but from the matches or lighter.

                      Petrol (and I think diesel too) need a naked flame or spark to ignite, which the cigarette ain't.
                      When we hear of accidents involving petrol/diesel and smoking, it's from the person lighting the cigarette with a match then carelessly throwing the still burning match to the ground where the fuel is and it ignites.

                        Perhaps you should pop down to the local pharmacy and ask them if they have any cream that will help get rid of the redness.
