I thought that many of you who are unfamiliar with Golden Hop, may appreciate to see how it looks in a dark corner. My specimen is in its second year, where during the winter months I hacked it back to within six inches, or so, of the ground. It doesnâ??t appear to be quite so rampant as the dreaded mile a minute plant, but although I do have both plants, I much prefer the hop.

Humulus lupulus aureus. May not be my favorite plant, but certainly one of the more memorable botanical names.

Hi Hel, My garden is over limestone, but the soil was introduced into the garden from an unknown location during 1992, when I restarted a fresh. The hop is growing along a narrow strip on one edge of my property, where it shares its site with a young Ash tree, not far from its roots, a dog rose and a cotoneaster thatâ??s quickly spreading along the first section of the fence. Iâ??ll see about providing a photo. The soil is a reasonable loam. No sand, no clay, no nonsense.:lollol:

That's a lovely plant Woo. It reminds me of something I've seen in the local conservatory, but I don't know its name. Here is part of my border hedge with the golden hop along it.

Woo, I think that your flowers are Campsis radicans. I have a photo of it in Shrubs by Roger Phillips, a marvellous publication that is profusely illustrated.
