There are a few things that flower in the winter months.

You have many shrubs like mahonia that will give a show of yellow flowers. There are perennials that flower in the winter also, but not as many. The one I can think of at the moment is Helebore, which is also know as christmas rose.

For instant colour in the winter many people turn to more bedding plants, like polyanthus and pansy. There is also a number of bulbs, starting with snowdrops, and then crocus that will give a flower display in the winter months.

    Hope this Helps!

The only perennial I know that could have flowers on at any time of year is the perennial wallflower, Erysymum 'Bowles Mauve". I am always amazed at it's flower-power.

Otherwise, as Plantstar says, there are a variety of winter flowering shrubs, many of them with scented flowers.

Winter flowering Viburnum will give you a show of pink flowers during mild spells in winter.

Apart from the Christmas rose Helebore there is another one which does yellow flowers from Nov tiil May. Sorry I can't remember the name but you could Google for it. If you want to grow Helebore from seed you MUST get fresh seed. There is a nursery which sells it.

Some of the Heaths and Heathers do. Have a few of these in my slope.

Try winter flowering jasmine, lovely yellow flowers from end of November until Jan/Feb. This will brighten up any space.
