Just signed up here after moving into my first flat with my partner, we have a lovely front & back garden - which for a flat is extremely big! so looking to get tips & ideas as i know nothing about gardening whatsoever so id love to learn whilst my brain is still young lol

here is pictures of the back garden, forgive the mess - tips would be appreciated aswell to get me started! I have planted 3 sets of Cornflower seeds in the pots.

Hello and welcome, you will like it here.

A great canvass you have there, there are others much more qualified than me to advise you, and they are a really friendly bunch, just be aware of the humour, at times it can be very cheesy

Hello and welcome and wow, I already love your garden even before you make a start. I hereby place it on record that I am officially jealous:)

Whatever you do to it, its going to be brilliant because just beyond your fence you have excellent views which will kind of function as an extension to your garden, even if its off limits, its still part of the view, so I'd keep that in mind and incorporate the views into whatever design you go for.

I'm most envious of all about the river just beyond your fence. I see you've already got decking in the perfect position to overlook the river, which will be perfect with a bit of subtle lighting on a warm summer's evening sat outside with a tinny or three or a nice bottle of red. I'd be tempted to replace the decking with a stone patio at some point though, as decking gets horribly slippery once the algae moves in.

Some fragrant flowers and shrubs wouldn't go amiss too.

Are their kiddies in the equation? If so, you might want to give some thought to making the fence un-climbable just for their safety, and of course it affects what sort of features you incorporate into it.

Thank you clueless ! the view is stunning isn't it, we fell in love with the place instantly, there are no kids involved so fence will be staying put, i should have mentioned aswell we have lovely ruins of an Abbey to the left of the river.

I cant wait to get started however one thing troubling me is the neighbors gardens are disgusting & they arent the type to maintain it as grass doesnt look like its been cut in ages !!

Also, not sure id be able to replace the decking area as my place is privately rented - not sure landlord would wanna replace it :P

In that case, I'd give it a thorough scrub then paint it with non-slip paint.

Welcome Grant and I agree with everyone else, what a lovely garden. I know nothing is set in stone, but do you have any idea how long you you intend to be there as it's rented? You might want to think of containers if it's not long term, or you'll be leaving a legacy for someone else. There will be lots of summer annuals coming into the garden centres now for a quick splash of colour.

            Hi again!

Just a little update on how im getting on!

First of all my azalea sprung back and has blossomed really well! im not sure whether its because of our recent nice weather or the fact ive added in Miracle Gro slow release pellets into the soil aswell.

ive attached pictures of the area at the side of the house which was a grassy weedy area before i moved in - ive put flowers in there & wood chip down aswell.

Now i have a problem with a plant i bought yesterday, its a New Guinea Impatien, I took it out its pot & planted it however looks dead today and ive not done anything to it, its planted in just the soil thats here & ive not used compost or any other type of soil, any ideas? & any tips on what other plants i can put down to give me more colour.

Welcome - what a lovely spot you are living in! As said before pots of plants will give you a garden to transport until you get to your forever home and pardon the pun but put down roots! I grow small fruit trees and shrubs in pots and under plant with flowers. Looks good and productive too! Have fun planning and playing in your new garden!
