It's a hive of industry at the moment Nathan isn't it? All that pricking out into pots - still, if you are having a wettish Easter like us, the PolyT's the best place to be with a radio and a cuppa. Have you got a potting bench so you don't have to bend down all the time.
    Look after your back,
    Jenny
    lovely pictorial update today,

I haven't asked about any livestock, but couldn't see anything on the rules that says I couldn't, but I wouldn't, as that would tie me to visiting twice a day, once to let them out and once to put them away safely, as there are foxes around. We have chickens at home anyway, so don't really need them on the plot as well :)

The size of the plot is approximately 30' x 90' (a ten rod plot, which is a standard size), it is possible for them to make the plots 1/2 or even 1/4 sized (depending on where the allotment is)

With regards to excess, I reckon a lot will get frozen .... But I will cross that bridge when I come to it :)

I need to sort the potting bench, I am currently kneeling on the ground doing that..... Time taken making a bench is time taken from potting up :(

I cannot help seeing a hole dug 12 X 25 and 10 foot deep - then a poly tunnel over it and some solar array heater and indoor swimming pond! A trash burning heater too! I heated a house in Atlanta for three winters with a wood burning stove I made out of a 35 gallon steel barrel that sat in the dining room and vented up a chimney.

In Iran there are large towers hundreds of years old out for no apparent reason - but they were massive pigeon coops kept by the melon growing farmers so they could fly off and feed on the grain farmers crops producing squabs for the table, and guano for the melons. Iran has a tradition of pigeon battles where the roof top keepers try to use their flocks to lure, and then catch, rival pigeon keepers birds.

Andy Capp kept them, and most famous of all, Mike Tyson the boxer is a serious pigeon fancier and racer. He said he loves his birds because he is just the pigeon human to them, not the celebrity fighter. I say go for it.

And, seriously, my wife wants to keep guinea pigs for meat. Can feed them from foraged foods and they breed fast, and are a nice two person meal size.

Lots of things to get up to on a nice big allotment like that.

Yes, it took a while and thanks for letting me know it was there as early as you did.

Another update .... (oh No!! I hear you cry :snork: )

I have done 'not a lot' today, but what I have done needed doing.

Firstly, I fixed a timber either side at the very end of the tunnel between the end hoop and first one in, then with this secured in place, I have loosely placed (so it can be removed) a 3x2 that spans the width of the tunnel, when this spans the width, I can then place timbers at right angle to that one, and they also catch the end timber which I fixed in place at the end of the tunnel when I put it together. All in all, this allows any seed trays to be off the ground now .

A view of the first 'fixed' timber :-

And this shows how the loose timbers sit :-

Starting to move some trays up :-

            And finished :-

Also I took a couple of pics from the front of the plot, shows how much rubbish I cleared the other day :-

And, as I haven't done one in a while, I did a quick video of what has/hasn't been done yet (note that I have used a hose as a straight line, as I forgot to take my orange string line :snork: ).

So nice to see you really getting into it Nate, after all the work you put in to create GC, you were too busy to enjoy the forum, hardly heard a peep out of you the first year I was on board :)

                Loved the vid Nathan. Always seems as though you have the place to yourself. Nice to see the tatties emerging. And the tunnel's looking really good now;

Great fun watching Web. I would put a leg, and it just needs to be a prop, not attached, in the middle of that span to avoid sagging.

I am watching as I write, luxuriant manure - older the better, as yours is, because I learned the hard way about weed seeds and horse manure. I still get flushes of them whenever I turn the soil. I am kind of watching out for some old windows wrecked out at construction sites to make a starting frame for cold weather seed starting.

To be honest, it is only a 10'span, and the weight is not that great, as the back timber is a 4x2, and the front is a 3x2, it is only a little bit of compost and a little water, and (for now), I have kept the weight at either end, the the timber starts to sag badly and ends up bent, I will just reverse it :)

                I'm lazy like that :)

Concerned at the Poly tunnel Nathan, I had a blow away made of that stuff and within a year the clear bits had now become holes and I ended up with a green NET ?
Stopped it blowing away but it did not let any heat build up
