    Hi all, I was taking my kitchen bin to the local tip today. It is a tall metal one that has become grubby. The metal bin has a plastic bin inside it which I thought might come in useful. How about a closh (spelling?) for my rhubarb? My rhubarb has quite thick stem on it at the moment. Could I cut the stalks and freeze them after stewing. And then use the bin to put over the plant to encourage long slim stalks.

    1- will new stalks grow on my plant?
    2- can anyone see a problem with this idea?

    Yep, Gazania, I do!!!:coffee::snork:

    Well, your Rhubarb is in the middle of it's growing stage putting out fresh stalks, thickening and strengthening the older ones so to be honest it's a bit late now as depriving the new stalks of light could weaken your Rhubarb plant for the next season. Putting the bin over the plant and excluding the light [forcing] is usually done just before the Rhubarb is putting up stalks and left on for around 8 to 10 weeks, and then the plant should not be forced again for at least a couple of seasons.:snork:
