Hi all, I spotted wisteria grown along ropes the other day and yesterday I saw roses growing along ropes too. The wooden posts were about 3/4ft high, a rope between them, and a rose grown half way between the posts, grown up, and along the ropes towards each post. Hope that makes sense?

What kind of rose would you use to do this, a climber, a rambler ... ?

I would reckon a Rambler, not so heavy with smaller flowers, but when I have used rope or twine ties after about a couple of years it rots.
My Dad used to use thick wire secured on poles in the days when people didn't have money.

I remember seeing this at Hyde hall a few years back. They were growing Rosa Cupid up one I seem to remember.

I'd say a Rambler too, that's what I'm using as the new stems are more pliable and easier to train:thumbsup:

thanks all, it's seems a rambler is the way to go.

Do you know what rambler you are using Lolimac?

Good morning Gazinia ,Gertrude Jekyll often used this method for her climbing Roses, there are some that say that the ropes or(swags) can encourage disease but if it was good enough for the lovely lady G/T its good enough for yours truly;)

              thanks people :)

I quite like the look of Francis e Lester for my climber at the moment. Check it out and let me know what you think

Ah' swags', that's the term I was looking for. My swag posts are only in the design stage at the moment as I'm just putting a trellis together for another rose project. But I would like to buy my swag rose/s as soon as possible
