Thanks for the few tips about, I'm now searching cycle routes to get a few miles in... Ideally it will be to commute to and from work once I'm up to it lol, not been on a bike for 25 yrs, just getting use to it again really....

Always pump it up a new one and check it's OK before relying on it, especially if it's the sort with an integral valve (NB it wont fit back in the box afterwards).

P.S. Cyclists tend to travel single file along towpaths towards other users, but joggers often expect walkers to step into the undergrowth to make room for them as they run at you two abreast (and all wearing headphones so oblivious to your comments).

        :heehee:

The looks I got from joe public riding around with that sticking out the back. I don't care though. Was quite useful as a deterrent for cars not to drive so close to me though as there was a screw sticking out the rear end.

Try your local councils website for a cycle map that marks out all of the cycle routes in your area. I think you can get them free of charge in your local library too.

          A couple of online resources:
          http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/routes
          http://www.forestry.gov.uk/england-cycling

Also, check out Ordnance Survey maps for your area, remembering that you're allowed to ride on public bridleways. Quite often an OS map will show tiny unclassified roads (which usually mean virtually traffic free) too, so you can often plan a circular route that is almost entirely traffic free, incorporating cycleways, bridleways and quite roads.

And look for canals too. As you know, quite often (but not always) you're allowed to ride along the canal tow paths.

And of course the best resource of all, your own inquisitive nature. Go for a ride, and reccy out potential routes as you pass bridleway signs, quite roads etc.
