Why not look at an alternative method then?
A Freeview compatible USB stick/receiver such as this one:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/August-DVB-T205-Freeview-Tuner-Stick/dp/B002EHVP9C

There are of course others but the important thing here is that it should have a connector for an external antenna for weak to marginal signal areas and it should be compatible with the newer HD channels.
These sticks simply connect to a USB port on your PC/laptop.

If you need an external antenna, then look for the smaller wideband log period types.
Avoid a masthead amplifier as much as possible (unless absolutely required) and if you buy one, make sure it's completely shielded as the cheaper ones are not and allow "ingress" of out-of-band signals which tend to saturate the amplifier and in turn completely mess up the bit error rate of the wanted Freeview channels.

        Correction to my post above:
It should be log periodic and not log period types.

What I also forgot to mention is that many of the newer Android based Multimedia players/set top boxes also support the USB DVB-T "stick tuners".

You're running a fridge from your battery?

A fridge will draw a lot of power. Maybe look at fixing the leak?

Just to clarify, the leak is coming from the fridge? If so, better left to the experts:)

Another option would be a rechargeable TV receiver/wifi transmitter enabling watching TV on a smartphone, tablet or laptop without using up data allowance. The aerial with them only works in an area of good reception, but most have a socket for your home aerial to plug in (using jack plug/co-ax adapter). But you can't surf the web and view wifi TV at the same time.
