Hi - I have a tangled mess of honeysuckle and something else in my garden. I understand there are 2 types of honeysuckle - japonica and periclymenum - one type I should cut back now and the other should wait until Spring.

I have one photo from late August when there were still berries. Today it is just a bedraggled mess of wood with few leaves. Can you tell me which type it is from this August photo?

    Thanks for any help.
    Gavin.

It's not a japonica type, and may be a periclymenum, however there are many other species that have similar looking leaves and stems to periclymenum.
They can all be pruned now; if you are in a very cold spot japonica can be left until spring.
